Nespresso - original or vertuo
Discussion
We had a Tassimo but was disappointed with the limited choice of pods available locally, when it died it wasn't replaced. Nespresso seems to have a lot more options available for it from the supermarkets but the newer vertuo machines seem to be better suited to larger cups and have much more choice in terms of machines, pods and accessories.
However there appears to be limited pod availability for the vertuo pods in supermarkets, i guess i could buy them direct and not have those issues ..... I would be looking at spending around £100, the cheapest vertuo is currently £120, any pros or cons of either version ?

www.which.co.uk/reviews/coffee-machines/article/ne... seems to sum it up.If you drink espresso or latte/cappuccino and don't want to use a separate warmer/frother, and want to be able to buy cheaper third party capsules then the original.
If you want a mug of coffee and happy only buying Nespresso capsules, then the new one.
I have both... prefer the coffee taste/selection of the original but if you like Americano style coffee then the Vertuo. Today... I would have not bought the Vertuo. It’s ok but nothing special. It all depends on type of coffee you want. I have a Severin milk frother and then I use the original I get a really nice latte or a nice espresso. With Vertuo you can get a reasonable americano but the rest not so great. For americano I actually prefer a stove top cafetière.
I have both...
If I had neither and got offered a free machine, I'd pick the Vertuo. It delivers a nice mug full of coffee and is very easy to use and the machine design works much better.
IMO Nespresso is nowhere near good enough as a standalone espresso. I just treat it as a nice mug of 'instant' so the Vertuo serves a purpose.
Using the original, I use two shots (two pods) then top up with hot water and milk to make a long drink. The Vertuo does all of this in one go with better results.
The downside is you can only get Nespresso pods as the machine works by reading barcodes to determine how much water to run through the particular pod.

Thinking of getting a machine. Not a massive coffee drinker but may have a few espresso per week if I have the option. Also handy for drinks for guests as I never have anything in.
Was looking at the Lattismo Pro. Seems to get good reviews. Also like it can dispense hot water so id likely not bother with a kettle.

I've had a Lattissima Pro for the last 3 years. Decent machine but it doesn't heat the water / milk hot enough for lattes or long coffees. Great for espressos though. Was looking at the Lattismo Pro. I also tend to use 2 pods to make a single cup. I then microwave the milk and boil the kettle to complete the process.
To be honest if I was buying today then I think I'd be looking at one of the bean to cup machines that DeLongui make as they can be had for not much more money than the Lattissima Pro. I suspect the running costs would be cheaper in the long term.
