This has been done before, but worthy of an updated thread I reckon.

I love pies. You can't beat a home made pie, and Mrs M's pies are brilliant. But sometimes you can't be bothered making one from scratch, or maybe you treat yourself to a pie at a local pub, so I thought I’d ask PHers which commercially-available pies you consider to be the best of the bunch?

I'll start with my current top 3:-

1) Love Pies. Made by Dunkleys' I believe. Not available retail, as far as I'm aware, but available at my favourite pub. Brilliant pastry, succulent fillings. If you know of a retail supplier I will be eternally grateful. http://welovepies.com

2) Pieminster Pies. Available from supermarkets. Lots of varieties available, and seasonal specials appear at Christmas. https://www.pieminister.co.uk/food/pies/

3) Tom's Pies. Quite often served at pubs. Costco claim to sell them but I've never found them in stock, and Waitrose once stocked them, but now don't see to, so still looking for retail suppliers. https://www.toms-pies.co.uk

Hijacking the thread immediately, I had one of their Kate&Sydney pies last week at the Nellie dean in soho. It was really poor. I went to their website to find a contact and have a whinge and on the front page they’ve got one of those cycling comments sections, one of which *on their own homepage* was a scathing review. Made me laugh.

But my favourite pies come from Sweeney & Todd in Reading, particularly the steak and oyster.

Yeah, I know Sweeney & Todd. Very good, but haven't been there in quite a while. I'm basically looking for recommendations for good pies to stick in the freezer, for when we're feeling lazy.

Pieminster Moo is very good. Haven't had a bad one yet.

Cheers. Definitely worth a try. Shame we don't have a local stockist out this way.

I can highly recommend these pies from Lochinver Larder on the West coast of Scotland. The demand for the pies by tourists was that great they decided to do mail order. Not the cheapest but they are nice.

The Higgidy pies my local Sainsbury’s stocks are really nice apart from the vegan one. The steak, mushroom & red wine one is my favourite. Chicken ones good too.

A Holland's pie from the supermarket when on offer for 55p fills a hole.

Other than that, I try and make my own so I can be sure there's lots of meat in it.

I do love making pies, but if I get chance I will pick one of from Shirley's Pies. Shirley's pie stand does the round at farmers markets local to myself, very good!

Also, like Lord of the Pies too http://lordofthepies.restaurantwebx.com/?fbclid=Iw...

Pieminister for me, or a Clarke's pie if I want a quick, cheap pie fix.

Yes, Higgidy's chicken pie is delicious.

They used to do one with mash potato on the top which was amazing, sadly gone.

Looks good. We often need to arrange a family meal in the area and that seems ideal. Dog friendly too !

Bolster Moor Pies just up the road from me. They’ve won many an award and the rest of their produce is pretty brilliant too....
