My local butcher went belly up at the weekend. So my favourite sausages are no more. Looks like I'll be heading to the supermarket then..
I want a decent sausage, not a chipolata, not messed about with (no pork and apple, pork and leek, etc) good for breakfast as well as bangers and mash for dinner. I don't mind a Cumberland or Lincolnshire mix but it needs to be consistently good. For the right sausage, price is largely immaterial (within reason, obviously)
So recommend me a banger chaps.

Sausages are a rare treat but I'm a big label reader so it's free range, 90%+ pork, and no wheat for me. The best I can find in the supermarkets are Sainsbury's Taste the Difference - the Cumberland or the Cumberland chipolatas.
Have you tried Black Farmer sausages? - if I remember correctly, they're gluten free because his family can't do gluten either, and that's who he started making them for.All my groceries come from Lidl, apart from meat which is from Costco.
I do however make a special visit to ASDA though just for their extra special sausages. Cumberland or just pork ones. They're the best supermarket ones I've found by a fair margin.
They also do a deal, 3x packs of 10 for £10. Good to stock the freezer with.

I have tried them, they're pretty good. They lose a point for the dextrose content, and I do prefer the peppery flavour of the Cumberlands.Zarco said:
Personally I don't think any supermarket will beat a good butchers sausage. I'd find another butcher if you are that fussy.
Ditto. I'm lucky in that my local butcher has won many awards for their sausages. That was mostly the fancy ones, all kinds of queer recipes but their proper breakfast bangers are awesome too. I'd prefer to have extra bacon and black pudding, maybe even some liver than supermarket sausages./sausage-snob
Order from The MeatMan online - before 11am delivered next day - excellent value, non-shrink and very tasty. The rest of his meat is also pretty good (52oz rump is excellent) and he often has "specials"

Aren't you in Devon?
I can really recommend Westaways sausages. Made in Newton Abbot.
We've been eating their Honey Roast sausages for years. Delicious.
