A pub near me uses soft plastic for serving pints in on race day, they don’t put these in the pot washer , they rinse them out and use again, this can’t be right surely ? Health and safety and all that ?

So recycling is a bad thing and one use plastics are the way forward? Are you of this planet? If so where have you been hiding?

I went in a pub near Basildon station, as I had a thirty minute wait for a train.
I asked for a vodka and tonic, and as the guy brought them, he started to pour the tonic in.
I said, “Whoa! Don’t drown it, leave the bottle on the bar.”
He said, “I can’t, pub policy, if it kicks off around here, they grab any bottle they can, as a weapon.”
Maybe where you live, this race day thing attracts nutters too, hence the plastic, but just rinsing and re-using doesn’t sound right.

The cups in question sound like single use and they're recyclable.

Using plastic (and not serving drinks in bottles) will probably be a licensing condition. As for the washing, a quick dip and wipe isn't ideal but TBH its what a lot of bars and pubs do. Problem with glass washers is they (should) use an 85 degree rinse which means glasses going back on the shelf or rack are hot.

In our Spa we use a polycarbonate glasses, they have to go through a hot cycle after each use, they tend to last 6 months. The flimsy stuff they use at festivals etc would not take the heat, so no they shouldnt reuse it, rinsing it is unhygienic and I would not be happy if I knew!

Doesn’t taste the same either. Glass vs plastic.

Some beers even come bottled in a plastic or aluminium (cost??) packaging, small minority so far.

My friend is involved with this business and they seem cool - https://stack-cup.com/ They seem to be catching on at festivals and big events.

You can reuse them but thing which interests me is carrying multiple drinks back from the bar - something which I find impossible with the normal plastic pint pots. In fact I've just had a looked and they reckon 4 drinks per hand but you can go more.
