what kinds do people buy or prefer?

local to me is ASDA, LIDL and further away an ALDI.

I've only ever tried the jarred jumbo hotdogs you buy in asda. the Herta frankfurters is something i regularly have too.

But having a look round lidl shows all sorts of types of wurst, frankfurters and kielbasa, so it will take some time to eat ones way through all of them to find what you like. asda has a range of polish stuff to..but it's a same scenario, you have no idea which ones are good. some might be good for heating in simmering water, others might work under a grill.

but to those who probably buy this stuff more regularly, what do you recommend?

Pretty sure I saw a Food Uncovered episode about the hot dogs found in jars and the process by which they are made....

Mechanically separated meat. Pure filth.

Lidl and Aldi do good Bratwurst and Frankfurters.

Hotdogs are primarily MRM, esp the ones with the initial W

Love the Aldi bratwurst, do them in Morrisons too. Proper German sausages bloody lovely. Asda do a variety of polish foods depending on location. Love the kabanos, look like longer pepperamis. Eat cold straight from pack. Do others always go for the ones that are cured, cooked ,that way eat as is, never heat these up myself.
Tried the usual tinned, jars of hot dog style sausages, all pretty bland but fills a hole when needed.
Big fan of the old mattersons smoked sausage in the packs, micro or cold. Most uk stuff seems to taste the same regardless of make or packaging.
Costco do fantastic Chicago style quarter pound hot dogs, all beef so a different flavour but are yum

One of my local corner shops has a massive range of mystery sausages and other international meat products, so check out your local ones for similar.

The big chunky ones in the fridge near the bacon usually 4 in a pack... that probably doesn't help but all you can do is buy them all and a big bag of the freshly baked small white rolls and report back with your findings (Recommend some curry powder in your ketchup for the authentic experience)

The Costco (Kirkland Signature) beef hot dogs are the best on the market imo. They're a full 1/4lb!

Near a Costco?

I was reading an article somwhere where Americans were laughing at the US section of our supermarkets as they had frankfurters in jars - which never happens in the US.

I bought a whole selection of hot dogs and wurst from these guys: https://sausageman.co.uk/ for a big german style BBQ. Were great.

That’s just cost me a notch on the belt. What a website. Thanks.

Mmm , jet wash meat! Or mechanically recovered meat to give it its real name . It's just slurry jet washed off the bones and formed into something edible .
