Parmentier sardines in olive oil with chilli

Absolutely delicious on Bertinet malted grain sourdough toast (from Waitrose, natch).

Good bit of heat, and deep deep savouriness. I confess I 'might' have licked the tin.

Totally into my sardine sarnies. Add a little rocket for some crunch and that Japanese kewpie mayo and it's just about the greatest sandwich ever. Will check out these Parmentier ones with chilli.

You really need to try these on their own first. The texture, the delicate flavour. Like no other sardine I've ever tried, and I am biiiig into sardines. Keep the oil in the tin to dress a Nicoise, or dunk bread in.

This. I was introduced to them as a child by a Canadian friend of my mum’s.

40 years later and the are still one of my favourite things. Yum!!

Eta - will be off to find the sardines in this week’s shop...

2 for £2.50 at my local Waitrose yesterday.

A mates dated a Danish bird for a while, who introduced me to sardine sandwiches...my favorite was:

- Toasted focaccia
- Sild (tinned herring)
- Lime
- Siracha
- Butter

not tried that but generally oily fish and pickles is a good combo e.g. smoked haddock / piccalilli, lemon sole / capers

They are indeed. Motivated by all the praise i bought four tins. I've no idea what to do with them, or whether I'll like them - but I'll save them for when I have a tragically boring day at work to add a little interest......
