How are they selected?
The awards are organised by Seafish, the public body that supports the £10 billion UK seafood industry. Seafish say there are a number of 'rigorous judging stages' to overcome en route to being named the best fish and chip shop in the UK. It’s starts with customer nominations and the includes mystery shopper judging visits and full business performance audits of premises, followed by presentations to an industry judging panel. i live in Shap (25 years) and the Fish and Chips have never been better. It has changed hands a number of times in my infrequent visits, once or twice a year. I cannot say its the best but it is the best I have had for a very, very long time.

The problem with these awards is that they are run by sea fish and not every chippy in the country is a member of theirs so there is a lot of fantastic chipshops that arnt in the running.
Indeed. Much like any other award scheme. I just posted it because it might give people a suggestion to try somewhere different locally thebraketester said:
I am surprised The Magpie isn’t on there
The Magpie in Whitby is utter garbage compared to decent chip shops. Ive never understood why folk seem to like it. They queue out of the door for less than average fish n chips.Ive visited most of the chip shops in Whitby, with Magpie and Trenchers being he worst. Some f the best chips have been at the pubs.
Of all those I've tried so far, Mr Chips is probably my favourite.
