Anyone recommend a good pub nearish to Cambridge to meet a friend for lunch? Ideally in a nice village for a little wander, though could be in Cambridge if parking possible and not a tourist trap.

Mid range rather than posh as will have two small children with us. Thanks for any suggestions!

The Old Crown in Girton is decent. Just outside Cambridge, good food, nice garden.

The Green Man or The Red Lion in Grantchester are good. Nice walks too.

The Boot at Histon is good, kid friendly. Lots of parking, a stones throw from Cambridge.

Excellent butchers in Histon IIRC.

North of Cambridge to add to the Histon and Girton suggestions - The Bridge at Waterbeach - Family friendly, food OK and right on the river, nice to watch the boats and ducks float by.

South of Cambridge, along with the Grantchester ones, I like the Royal Oak in Barrington (a bit further out but a nice village)

West, The Plough in Coton or the three horseshoes, madingley - a bit more expensive than the others but nice choices.

Royal Oak in Barrington is wonderful. Very picturesque.

Thanks for all the suggestions, ended up going to this one, food was indeed good and decent service as well, would happily go again! Will try and work our way through the other suggestions on this thread when time allows...
