I am meeting up with some mates in London next week and I have said I will organise the restaurant. We normally do steak or Italian.

I am staying at London Bridge but can travel into the city further if needs be.

It needs to be good quality food, not fine dining. Something new and good would be ideal, but established and good also fine.

There's a Hawksmoor around Borough Market or if you want some nice views, Ivy Tower Bridge is nice.

We were at the steak restaurant Temper in Soho recently and it was excellent and the right vibe for a mates night out. There is one in the City too.

Not an Italian or steak, but Porkys (bbq) bankside is a great place with friends, a bit different from the norm, smashing beer menu too.

The Hawksmoor at Borough Market is in Winchester Walk, we’ve been there twice, and it’s a really good steak place, (IMO).
The Ivy at One Tower Bridge is in an excellent location, nothing wrong with the food, but the service leaves a bit to be desired, so much so that although it’s only a 25 minute walk from our house, my wife would rather jump on the Jubilee Line, and go to The Ivy in The Park, at Canary Wharf.
The final straw for her at the Ivy Tower Bridge, was when the wine was put 3 or 4 metres from our table, and exasperated, she walked across to get it, only for the waiter to say, “I would have got that ma’am.”
She answered politely, “If you could see that my glass was almost empty, why didn’t you?”
Give it a try, maybe things have changed there.

There's an authentic Mexican place at London Bridge.

It's pretty casual and one of those small plate restaurants but the food is very good.

If you like Italian, and specifically, pasta, then try Padella.
If you like Spanish Tapas then try Brindisa.
I don't eat steak so can recommend anywhere for that.
Good luck!

Just thought of another place which combines both steak and Italian - Macellaio near Southwark yum

Not much of a view, but Constancia, Tower Bridge Road, corner of Tanner Street is an Argentine churrascaria, that does blinding steaks, and has a good wine list.

I went in Brindisa at Borough Market a year or two back, with a woman from Seville, Spain.
I remember the tapas as quite good, I also remember her saying that the pulpo, (octopus), and some of the cheeses were more expensive than she thought that they should be in U.K.
FWIW, I’d go again.
