Sad, very young. His books were some of the first recipe books I bought.

Just saw it on BBC. I remember him being on TV a lot when I was young. 59 is no age at all.

I enjoyed his programmes and his books. Far too young an age, RIP Gary.

Liked him growing up. Enjoyed his meticulous attention to detail even as a youngster. And of course fondly remember his hairdo.

Shocked to hear he has gone.

His cooking was always back seat to his presentation style. He got overtaken by presentation style as per Oliver and Gordon. Shame, he spanned the gap between them and Delia Smith.

If you want to get a great cookery book buy Great British Classics. It's attention to detail crossed with a twist. He put so much effort into it if you repeated his steps exactly you would get the same result.

This is his rack and black recipe

BBC are showing clips of his custard tart which I've made many times. Superb.

I see him as a Chef first - after all, it’s Food related.
