Does anyone see any reason not to visit premises serving Chinese food at the moment?

I certainly don't. To use covid-19 as an excuse, I believe, is plain ignorance bordering on racism.

About once a month, when out city centre shopping, my wife and I go to a no frills Chinese cafe, (lets call it a 'Greasy Chopstick') which serves you a big plate of food with tea or coffee for about £6. It's pretty good and normally very popular.

We were there on Saturday and it was so quiet. Probably only one quarter of the normal customer numbers, most of them Chinese or other Asian. I walked past there at about 5 pm yesterday, which is usually a busy time, and it was deserted. Just the three staff sitting down at the tables. Needless to say, the rough looking pub next door was packed as usual, as was nearby KFC and McDs.

You have as much chance as catching something in the pub, KFC, McDs, etc. as you do in the Chinese, if not more! (The pub clientele look particularly grubby.)

I'm planning to eat more Chinese food than usual, to give some support to these businesses. Please consider doing the same. It's just not fair to scapegoat Chinese people in this way.

If I ate Chinese food, I wouldn’t stop due to CV.
I stopped eating it the first time I tried Thai, and wouldn’t put myself through it just to support their businesses.

I wouldn't be surprised if other food places were also empty - people panic (I think the 2nd poster her typoed and did not realise what he wrote) and it's hitting all areas.

I'll be visiting my favorite Chinese cafe more often. I plan on going again this weekend.

Perhaps asking people to eat more Chinese food was a bit much, but I don't think there is any need for people to change what they normally eat. (At present.)

i.e. If your usual Saturday night entertainment includes a Chinese takeaway, then as things stand, there's really no reason to stop.

maybe less so with the Eu situation now, but a few weeks back seems reasonable to me, Chinese people are more likely to have Chinese relatives or been in contact with people in china

Shouldn't that mean it's Italian restaurants you should avoid?

Had a nice Chinese lunch earlier this week. Were 3 other tables in. I'd usually say there is at least 10.

Hadn't given this a thought to be honest. Though thinking about it, I have to just say that anyone swerving a Chinese meal over fears of contamination from the staff, then going for a KFC instead (worse still, for pasta and pizza) is a total fking racist prick.

I imagine we're going to see some very quiet public places over the coming weeks as the drive for social isolation increases to control the virus spread, but that's a different matter.

Chinese supermarkets seem to be doing pretty well, was just as busy as usual if not busier last weekend with everyone stocking up on rice and instant noodles rolleyes

There are signs of subtle racism in places though, which is a shame but not exactly surprising. A friend was racially abused by some teenagers on a bus a couple of weeks ago.

So long as raw bat isn't on the menu I wouldn't give them a miss.

As others have said, I think it's probably more due to the public wanting to avoid contact with other members of the public rather than anything else.

Don't worry, all the coughing and sneezing is done by the 'workforce' in the extra living quarters in the garden (sans Planning Permission rolleyes ) plucking the chickens before preparing your Chow Mein and the rest of your order in the kitchen eek

Usual hysteria will mean some won't eat a Chinese, but it's great for me as now there's no queueing for my order biggrin

I think it's just a general downward trend, there was a thread on it a few months ago. All the main players in Leeds have closed down over the years and the odd one or two that are still operating you can just walk into on any evening, no booking needed.
The one near me is just crap these days and also (along with 6% of the population) i'm T2D so can't eat rice or noodles anyhow and what is a Chinese without that?
A lot of people seeing carbs as the Devil these days.

Just picking up the the T2D and carb element. Have you looked into resistant starches?
