i've had a metal filter for some time for my aeropress, but the coffee tends to overflow the sides of the mug. It's possible that the rim (bit with no holes) of the filter is too wide? Anyway, it's an unbranded one, can anyone recommend one they've used to good effect please? thanks

I have one of these (possibly!) https://www.thebeanshop.co.uk/products/terrone-aer...
Mine is a Terrone Superfine Aeropress disk, but Terrone no longer seem to stock it in their shop, but it is listed as an unbranded one in the link above, even though the URL has Terrone in it!
I seem to recollect it won loads of awards a few years back which is why I bought that one back in Oct 2014. My date seems to be backed up by Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TerroneUK/posts/and-its-f...
Some others reviewed here (not sure how old this review is though)

Anything particularly wrong with the paper filters?

they filter out the oils etc so it does taste different. Personally I thought the paper was irritating and messy too, and irritating in that you have to make sure they stay dry when stored and so on... which can be a pain when travelling etc.

I used a metal filter (from Amazon, can't remember the brand) for a while, but it was such a faff to clean it after every use it somewhat defeated the object.

(I am a scummer who only rinses the Aeropress after 50% of uses and wash it properly one a week - if you wash the Aeropress after every use then it won't be an issue).

A decent Ziplock bag is good for the paper filters when travelling.
