Jack Daniels-esque gift ideas
Discussion
Hi all..... need some expert advice.
Friend and colleague leaves the firm in the next couple of weeks..... absolute top bloke and one that will be sorely missed. Has stated when he leaves he does not want a fuss etc.
But we want to get him a worthy gift ..... and happy to spend a few quid on this.
He is a big Jack Daniels fan...... has bottles of the stuff and confesses to having a decent collection of the differing variants. He is also very private and is difficult to question without giving too much away..... hence needing your advice.
Something akin to Jack Daniels but far more rare/special. Have no idea myself so a suggestion or two would be appreciated.
Many thanks

3 litre JD bottle as mentioned above, about £75 at Costco (they were in stock in Leicester last week), roughly £100 from Amazon and others.
JD 150th Anniversary, £110 from Costco, £140ish elsewhere. This is from 2016 so he may already have one.
JD Sinatra Select, limited edition £150 from Amazon and others. Again, he may already have one.
JD Single Barrel 64% £95 from here and others.
Personally I'd go for a premium bourbon, something he probably hasn't heard of or tasted but are similar enough to JD - and better IMO - such as EH Taylor for £95 or Michter 10yo for £140 or Willetts for £135

Bunch of limited bottle ideas here. Just a case of choosing one and googling where to buy

I'm an avid JD man myself, got around 20 different variants which have either been bought by myself or picked up overseas.
It depends on what you want to go for and I see two options;
1. a limited edition bottle that contains something pretty average
2. a special bottle/blend that is other than No7
Some already mentioned by others, key ones are;
Sinatra Select (this remains on my wish list due to the price, you can get it for £100 if you shop around)
2011 Black edition (£45)
150th Edition (again on the wish list, £150ish)
Personally, my favourite I've had is Single Barrel 50%
Having said that, completely out of left field, I love the new JD Apple with a dash of lemonade, it's the summertime day drink to go against the JD/coke evening drink
Take a look on the whisky exchange, wife routinely goes there for fathers day/birthday/xmas
Might be worth scoping the guy a little more, personally I love JD and would prefer the brand itself as I'm more of a collector & drinker and if someone bought me something else I'm sure I'd appreciate it, but it wouldn't sit in the collection!

I'm with this... the guy is a friend and it's his leaving gift... get him JD if he likes it.If he's already got it, it won't matter. Remember the ideal quantity of something you collect is always n=n+1
Always something like tickets to the whisky show, along with a bottle of something: https://whiskyshow.com/
Getting something else could be a winner and turn him to something new, or what is perceived as better or just be something he will have no joy from no matter how good the intentions. Also anything JD you buy he could already have, or not be partial to.
I can appreciate a nice whiskey or rum and drink them straight, but I’m still partial to a Captain Morgan’s spiced rum and coke.
How about a bottle of Gentleman Jack or Single barrel and something else as suggested if you have a larger budget as mentioned. This way there is something you know he likes and isn’t run of the mill JR and can drink it and perhaps something for ‘special occasions’. Just an idea.

Again thank you for all the suggestions. Really difficult as I did not want to press too much about what he might have and therefore give the game away. Important this is a surprise!
Was almost on for a trio of collectors JD but eventually went for one of these..... it looks cool, and hopefully he will savour and enjoy!
Again thanks all!

That looks lovely,let us know how it’s received. I have a fair collection of JD bottles, from when they used to make lovely ltd edition bottles ( like the Maxwell House bottle). Now it seems they mainly use the same shape bottle and wrap it in a different printed plastic. Very much a cop out. Bizarrely, I’ve never been impressed at any of the ltd edition versions of the drink over and above the regular JD as a ‘go to’ drink.
