Never seen so many as this year and so early smile

Adds to a walk when you can find these little beauties.

They've started popping up now just north of Glasgow, but they tend to start early August, not that I'm complaining now they are finally here. Last year was a great year for them

Picked these on tuesday, got a load more on wednesday though

Dried most of them. I tend to freeze chanterelles though as they don't dehydrate well

Not really. I find them mushy and not particularly flavoursome, however they will do when dried if there's nothing else around.

They are ok when small, the orange ones are a bit better. Orange birch boletes do need cooked, mildly toxic when raw iirc

Scarlatina boletes are very good and often left alone by other pickers - can be confused with a couple of ones you don't want to eat though!

Cheers.

I found these in the highlands a couple of days ago under pine. I don’t think they are true ceps, but I am not sure which close relative they are. They were growing alongside one of the red stemmed varieties which as someone remarked above I leave alone as I’m not confident to pick the right one!

Any thoughts?

Thanks Hanglow, thought it might be that one but they don't have much redness to them. I'll try cutting them and see what happens.
