I'm looking for a new meat mincer - because the cheapy one I've got gets clogged really easily and is a total faff to use. It always seems to get stuck on the fat, which is something I definitely want in my mince.

However, when I start to look at electric ones they all seem to follow the same design so I assume they all suffer from the same clogging. Or, are they any features that I'm not aware of that make one mincer better than another. I've seen electric ones online for between £45 and £110. I'm not after a professional machine that takes up 1/2 my kitchen to store.

Any recommendations for any brands or specific models. I will be using it to either mince pork shoulder / belly (not for sausages) or beef. Thanks

One suggestion which may help, but if you don't, try cutting the meat into slices and then freezing for 15 mins or so to get it cold and firm. Minces the fat much easier when it's more solid.

Every Eastern European kitchen has a 'Porkert' meat grinder, the originals are made in the Czech Republic. The No 5 will do for the occasional domestic user.

You will have to hunt for this, as the similar designs sold on Amazon are cheap crap made in China.

I've got an Andrew James one, it wasn't too pricey and does fairly well on the 2-3 times a year I use it. Fairly easy to clean and comes apart so doesn't take a great deal of storage.

The older version of this.
