Morning,

Doing some xmas shopping, my brother is a bit of a connoisseur of whisky, cognac, etc.

Saw these sorts of things advertised a few places:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Whiskey-Bourbon-Tequila-G...

Advertised as for ageing at home, but when you read the description, it's foil lined inside, and it's probably cheap/crap wood anwyay.

Anyone aware of a better version, anyone used one before?

Worth it? Did it impart any flavour/taste?

Interested to hear any thoughts, thanks.

Would do nothing for the ageing because as you say it's not a breathable cash where the spirit meets with the wood.

Could be quite fun to make a spiced rum in though.

I had one of these https://www.masterofmalt.com/barrel/american-white...
Added a LOT of taste.

Interesting, I did see that exact one earlier one, and when I clicked on the "barrel" category at the top, to see them all, I got a 404, so gave up and looked elsewhere.

I'll have another look, sounds like what I'm after, thanks.

Don't think I'd put a good dram in there but making a vatted whisky out of cheaper stuff would be fun.

The one I linked to needs at least with one flush through with something like a cheap vodka.

It also needs to be in stock before I can buy one! Unfortunate!

The search continues.
