Could a pub “sell” a substantial meal for say 20p along with a few pints if the customer agrees that he doesn’t actually want the meal served to the table ?

A pub could do anything they like.

Surely just a plate of finished food on your table is enough for an afternoon session? The pub could sell the same plate multiple times!

In scotland my dad n his pals ordered burger and chips and sat not eating, and drank for a 4 hour session.

I used to use a late night drinking club, Each customer was provided a rank, inedible, chilli in a paper bowl. Something to do with licencing.
