Just put 36 bottles in the basket. Went to the payment screen and there is no option in the drop down menu for the UK.

Is this because my dad voted for us to leave the EU? 12 of the Porta 6 bottles were for him!

I've got a shipment on the way which was dispatched on the 18th but if I try to reorder it says no carrier available for my destination!

Might just be a covid/brexit glitch? Hope so.

Let's see how the details pan out. First thought today was "yay we can go on holiday" closely followed by "can we fill the boot with wine on the way back".

I had an email from them saying they weren't taking anymore UK orders for now, they were expecting that going forwards we'd have to pay UK vat and alcohol tax, what this deal actually means for people buying direct from Europe I don't know.

Anyone any the wiser as to the law going forward? Is mail order being treated the same as duty free in the back of the car on the way back from holiday?

How much you can bring depends on the type of drink. You can bring in both:

beer - 42 litres
wine (not sparkling) - 18 litres
You can also bring in either:

spirits and other liquors over 22% alcohol - 4 litres
fortified wine (for example port, sherry), sparkling wine and alcoholic drinks up to 22% alcohol - 9 litres
You can split this last allowance, for example you could bring 4.5 litres of fortified wine and 2 litres of spirits (both half of your allowance).

You will have to pay excise duty and VAT on alcohol you declare. You may also have to pay customs duty.

I reckon that one of the first big stories from the anti-Brexit papers will be headlined

I JUST ARRIVED IN DOVER WITH MY VAN FULL OF BEER AND FAGS AND WAS FINED £-HUNDREDS.

Hopefully an unintended benefit of Brexit will be a another dramatic reduction in smoking, once all the truck loads of illegal stuff stops arriving in the UK, unchecked.

Had another email from our friends in Portugal, long and short of it -

'One of our best sellers to the UK market, the Vidigal Porta 6, before the BREXIT at 3.60 GBP plus shipping, it will be now 3.19 GBP plus 2.23 GBP excise and 20% VAT tax, so a total of 6.50 GBP per bottle.
The shipping cost is the same in terms of transport cost but it takes per order an extra fee of 9.79 GBP for the exportation customs dispatch so it means that if you buy more than one case of 12 bottles, you will save money since it’s a flat fee per order and not per case.
In the end a bottle of Vidigal Porta 6 that in the past was around 4.7 GBP with all taxes and shipping included, will be now between 7 and 8 GBP depending on the number of bottles ordered'

Aldi for wine from now on then, what a shame

Ref the porta 6, Tesco recently had this on their buy any 6 save 25 percent. Works out at 5.65 a bottle on those terms (7.5 normally). I hope that deal returns at some stage!

Elsewhere it can be found in Asda at 6.5, the co-op and majestic 8-9.

At 6.5 in Asda it’s still fine value.
