I'm not a fan of introducing new laws without very good reason, but a colleague has just suggested putting mayo onto a sausage bap. All right minded individuals know that brown sauce, and possibly some mustard are the only acceptable condiments.

Is there already a law against this, and if not, how quickly should it be introduced?

If the ratio of tomato sauce to mayo is greater than 5/1 then I believe it is permissible.

Mayo alone is an abomination

Clearly you are all wrong and the best thing to accompany a sausage bap is cheese and a decent squirt of tomato ketchup. If the bap is replaced with a Staffordshire Oatcake you have then reached perfection.

Proper good quality sausage needs no additions - be that red, brown, yellow or off white!

Ah, that explains why my Mrs won't let me put it between her baps!

This all day long, take some time to find a good butcher who makes their own sausages. My local butcher makes the best sausages, and all from local pigs.

I cannot fault this, except to mention bacon cheese and tomato oatcakes with brown sauce!

There is an argument to be made that mayonnaise, on a lightly toasted bread, on which hot ingredients are to be placed can be used to replace butter. The practical effects can be demonstrated clearly in a Millenial Toastie, and are actually quite good. Butter obviously has a place in a a sausage bap, unless you are a savage, so there is perhaps a potential discussion point here.

Mayonnaise should only be allowed as a vehicle to other condiments...ie mixing a spice rub with mayonnaise to make a paste/sauce

Not sure why anyone thought this should be moved into the Food sub-forum.

It was very obviously a jokey post, and SPL was the appropriate place for it. That place needs a bit of lightening up at the moment !

I presume were talking about square sausage here? The only sausage worth of being put on a ROLL.

Mayonnaise was of course developed as the only acceptable accompaniment to chips, but I believe it is now both legal and customary to use it with other delicacies including but not restricted to sausage baps. Disclaimer IANAL

You're a bunch of savages.

Garlic mayo is acceptable with seafood. Normal mayo is a legal requirement, and rightly so, in Belgium with fries. Otherwise mayo has no place in an English gentleman's life. Ever.

Provided you stay local when you do it, you should be fine. But don't try to eat it beside a lake, or you will be charged the £200 picnic tax,

Part baked baguette from the shop to finish off at home. Real butter to melt into the baguette then plunk your sausage in with a good line of garlic mayo.

I'm a great advocate for Mayo having been indoctrinated in Germany and Holland for a number of years (just don't get me started on the Dutch frites sauce urgh). It suits many sandwiches but never. never sausage ones.

They should just have butter and nothing else
