Hello fresh, mindful chef, gousto
Discussion
Anyone use any of these?
Tried some gusto and had some slightly dodgy ingredients (tough chicken, battered vegetables) but pretty good and had some smoothie kits from mindful chef that were great. Haven’t tried hello chef though.
For me they reduce wastage, as you use everything and it’s an easy way to get some new recipes (plus ingredients) during lockdown. Some of the gusto recipes are a bit bland though and I’ve ended up tarting them up a bit.
Seems like the recipes are often targeting certain fat and carb targets so maybe that’s where the flavour might be missing to me anyway.
We don’t use them all the time just maybe do an order once a month and get a few meals each time. The curries seem to work better than some other meals and the timings often seem a bit off.

We have Gousto on and off.
Usually when they send us a 20% discount voucher- at full price it's a bit too expensive and i'd rather get off my arse and go and shop.
With the discount I think it's well priced. As you mention it's nice to get just the right amount of stuff that you need and widen your typical meals to include some newer stuff.
Never had any issue with poor quality ingredients, have had a few issues of little things missing - raised a complain and got a couple of quid off the next order.
Did look at a Hello Fresh offer but thought the menu was quite restrictive and most of them you had to pay a 'top up' on top of the base price.
Shortly the thread will be visited by the 'oooh you're too stupid to cook or plan your own meals' people. Ignore them.

We are using Hello Fresh and have been since Christmas. Reduce waste and make it easy to try new meals. We have tried all of them and generally move between them as we get a discount code.
I am able to give 4 boxes away for free, but most of my friends have already tried them, so if you want to send me over your email you can get a free box.

I love cooking. I’ve only got into these during lockdown and been quite impressed with it and the ease of using the service.
As I said it’s not something I use all the time but gusto it’s pretty good imho.
The mindful chef stuff is pretty good too, I make loads of smoothies and ended up wasting a lot of ingredients but their smoothie kits are great and reduce waste. Thinks like the smoothie taster kits allow you to try loads of new things without buying lots of bits and pieces you only need a pinch of.

Thanks! Just checked it out, think it’s a new account thing, maybe you just have to set up a new account to get the discount? https://cook.gousto.co.uk/raf/?promo_code=MARK4217...

Used gousto for about 5 months in total over the past couple of years.
We were really impressed to start with and tried loads of new things and learned a bit cooking wise.
We just had about 5 or 6 boxes and got sick of it. Loads of meals are complicated for the sake of it , loads of ingredients just to make a dressing for rocket (which I hate) etc.
The main things though is EVERY box had missing ingredients. Lots of the recipe packs had 2 of something but missing something vital. Several vegetables didn't make it to use by too which never happened before.
Don't think we will be going back to it.
