Cooking on board a boat with a single gas ring and little space for prep.

Today's affair was noodles, cooked with carrots and peas and then sliced garlic sausage left in it for five minutes to heat through.

I am looking for other ideas along those lines. Suggestions appreciated.

How regularly can you get to a shop, and how good is it (likely to be, if you're moving...)? And how long are you going for?

Smash with little cubes of cheese and salami is good. Peppers fried, splash of soy and some cooked prawns with noodles. Omelettes.

I didn't even know Smash was still available! Prawns are a good shout.

The nearby shop is a Londis convenience place. But there is a Waitrose nearby.

My regular "snack" is an Aldi based bean and chorizo stew "thing".

1/4 diced onion
1/4 diced pepper
2" bit of chorizo cubed
Chopped chilli to taste

fry until golden, add

1/2 tin of Taco mixed beans
1/4 jar of Tomato & chili sauce
Smoked paprika
Splash of water
Salt

Zero effort, one pan, 5-8 minutes tops.

I know I’m going to get stick for this but...one tin each of decent stewing steak (M&S or Waitrose do it), carrots, potatoes and peas and just warm it through. No prep whatsoever and takes about 10 mins

Boil water, add a quarter cup of quinoa, boil for a few mins, remove, drain, and add a tin of tuna and some sun dried tomatoes.

Boil tagliatelle pasta, drain, add grated cheese, some ham and an egg, beat for a bit. Voila tagliatelle carbonara!

Fry onions, dice potatoes and carrots, add chicken stock, seasoning, boom, soup!

Boil pasta, when done add grated Parmesan melt for creamy sauce, add smoked salmon.

Fry onions, mushrooms, sliced green bell peppers, until well done, add soy sauce, add noodles.

Fajitas,,,

Go to Waitrose for the chicken, err not Londis, serves one lol...

1/2 green pepper
1/2 red pepper
1/2 onion
A chicken thigh fillet.
cut the veg into 1cm squares, cut the chicken into 10-12 pieces, fry really hot and add a little spice, Cajun, Fajita, or Capsicana(?) brand.
Split between 2 wraps, add a bit of cheese and sour cream, or just philadelphia, or Greek yoghurt.

I know I’m a fan of the packs but still ...

One pack of Spice Tailor (other makes are available) spice and sauce.
Couple of chopped chicken thighs.
Handful of fresh baby spinach.
Tin of sweetcorn.
Couple of chopped tomatoes.

Fry the chicken in a bit of oil for a couple of minutes. Add the spices for 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes. Add the smaller sauce pouch. Cook through for a couple of minutes. Add the sweetcorn. Add the main pouch of sauce. Maybe add a bit of water, cook through for a couple of minutes. Add the spinach and stir till wilted. That’s it.

I accept there’s no rice and whatnot, but I don’t eat that so don’t care smile I do pop a couple of mini naans in the toaster though, which might defeat your one hob criteria.

a bit of cod loin is lovely in the Keralan curry sauce, takes 5 minutes.

Stroganoff

Chicken thigh or beef strips
Mushrooms
Sour Cream
Smoked paprika
Oil

Fry the meat until brown. Soften the mushrooms. Add the paprika to taste. Stir in the sour cream to make a sauce.

I do pretty much the same but with a tin of baked beans. Bit of grated cheese on top.

Best of luck prepping some of these on the boat and cleaning up as you go especially with raw chicken and fresh veg smile

There’s not a chance you’d catch me frying spices or onions up on my boat it would stink the cabin out forever.

If you want something more complex you’d be better off cooking it at home and warming it through.

This sounds like the sort of thing, thank you, especially since the diners are principally children.

Don't be ridiculous. I have only made the boat to look and sound like an ice cream van for safety purposes.

Yes indeed. "Balfour Boaty" arrived just prior to Christmas.

One of the children prefers chicken to beef, I Googled "canned cooked chicken" and found this. I don't know about "Sweet Sue", "sweet mother of Jesus" was my first thought.
