Should we have a cooking competition again?

I’d love to be able to cook! I’ve spent the last couple of months on a mine in west Africa and every meal is rice with either meat in salty gravy or chicken carved with a hammer in salty gravy. Unless this weeks comp features chicken and salt I’m afraid ahm oot!
Would be a great fit for the Dirty Takeaway thread though :-)Clive Milk said:
We used to have these in the past on here and they were good fun, like Masterchef but far better of course
If anyone is interested I have a good, yet easy, challenge for the weekend!
If not, let this thread sink to the very bottom of Satans slow cooker ...
Thoughts?
Happy to join in, but next weekend as just got back with this weeks shopping!

Show us anyway.i realise my opening sentence could be misconstrued! as a previous PH cookery comp winner [albeit i never got the apron, hmph] i can cook reasonably well. just in my present circumstances i get what i'm given or go hungry. last night was suspect fish in a suspect white sauce with overcooked spaghetti and cauliflower. it made that takeaway thread pic look good
i have managed to purloin 2kg of tenderloin from the camp kitchen for a bbq tomorrow, so there is hope.

I don't think I ever saw an apron either!
The Cooking Competition was quite fun to do and often challenging although it could be a bit time consuming, perhaps that was why it died a death.
I recall winning one once and setting the next one as using offal, nobody was at all interested, maybe I was the one that killed it?
Anyhow, I'm up for another go as I'm fully retired now with plenty of time to cook and I've got plenty of celeriac in the veg rack, my personal challenge will be cooking whatever is set in a low carb way as we're still on a Keto/Low Carb diet.

I think it got too complicated / became hide-bound by combinations of ingredients. The Cooking Competition was quite fun to do and often challenging although it could be a bit time consuming, perhaps that was why it died a death.

William Sitwell on MasterChef I think had this perfectly judged in terms of "Cook us a dish which reminds you of a wonderful holiday".
Yo!
Here's the 'offaly interesting' thread:

OMG how I miss that cat.

Wow, I didn't realise it was that long ago, I did kill the Comp didn't I, mind you there wasn't much point in anyone else doing a dish as Ffuxake covered pretty well everything in his.
I think the lack of response to something as simple and basic as offal showed up the pistonheads cooks of that time as a bunch of fussy lightweights, one of the best things about food and cooking is trying new flavours, textures and tastes, would it be any different this time round?

Isn't it all a little bit Emperor's New Clothes driven by a bid to out-do each other in the weird and/or exotic food stakes?Whether or not a food is regarded as a delicacy most certainly changes with time, culture and fashion, for one example.
I will try anything once (dolphin steak is delicious!) so wouldn't regard myself as a particularly fussy eater, but a lot of offal just doesn't seem to be that nice? Certainly with some less popular foods (not necessarily offal) they have to be prepared in such a particular way to be pleasant I can't see the point and often the food itself is merely a way to convey butter and herbs into one's gob.
Or maybe I just need to try cooking it myself?

What about a core ingredients with one or two basic items. Bit like the Masterchef invention test.
As much about coming up with ideas and variety as cooking skills?
