So my weight is always one thing I have kind of struggled with but probably not in the usual manner!

I seem to lose weight very easily (naturally) and generally dont look well for it, I managed to get in to a bit of a routine last year of eating regularly and managed to get to a normal weight and maintain it however it quickly comes off if I dont.

In February my daughter come along and my daily routine was wiped out, resulting in me losing weight and generally feeling a bit crap when I put clothes on which dont fit me like they should.

I work from home but often have appointments i need to nip out to through the day and in between I help my partner with our daughter so my routine now is basically having a normal bowl of cereal on a morn and then nothing until tea time, usually for tea we have things such as chicken, mince, fish etc, just your generic meals as were not a masterchef.

Can anyone help me with some quick, easy and fattening foods/meals I can eat throughout the day which will help me gain weight?

I have looked on countless sites and although they give ideas some of their ingredients/meals are a bit far fetched for a quick and simple mid day snack!

Thanks

Getting good meals in is one thing but sounds like your putting in about 1000 calories a day (based on breakfast and evening meal).

You need to get at minimum another meal in there, and lots of smaller snacks.

If you struggle to get actual meals in, then stuff like bulking protein powder with milk will rack up some calories.

Mum used to have this issue, she was told to switch semi-skimmed for full milk, cream on her cereal!

Just eat more lol. You’re on a starvation diet for now so it’s no wonder that you’re losing weight. Perhaps prepare a whole bunch of food at the weekend and put it in the fridge/freezer so that you can eat an actual meal if you’re hungry rather than just relying on a fatty snack.

You will struggle to make up the deficit you’re at now by just snacking.

You're missing lunch. Find time to eat something then.

Eat carbs eg. Bread, pasta, rice etc.

tbh sounds like you need some good old stodge!

spag bol - easy to prepare and store
chilli con carne
jacket potato (something quite substantial like cheese and/or beans)
beef stew and rice or mash - again keeps well

From what you have posted, you are simply missing a third of your calorie intake by skipping lunch.

If your body is not alerting you to this by the feeling of hunger, set an alarm on your phone for when you should be eating. You can easily buy a sandwich or get prepared meals if you’re short of time.

I simply couldn’t function if I haven’t eaten for more than 4-5 hours. You obviously can, so simple reminders are the way to go.

Thanks everyone.

I think trying to prepare some meals is going to be an easier option, if its ready in the fridge and just needs heating up then thats not a problem.

A protein powder might also be handy to have for in between or if I skip a meal.
A lot of it probably comes down to habit (bad habit!), my parents have a very similar eating pattern and tend to work through it so I have probably over a period of years got in to their routine.

So today I started with the usual bowl of cereal, since then I have had a banana and a chocolate drink made with full fat milk.
I am currently sat now with a bowl of tuna & sweetcorn pasta.

Normally I wouldn't of had any of the above by now but its strange because while I am eating this I am genuinely very hungry and cant get it in quick enough!

I think I just need to try and prepare a bit more and keep some smaller things such as nuts around me to pick on throughout the day but the food mentioned above (spag bol, jacket potato with tuna etc) are all foods I enjoy so I just need to get in the habit of eating them mid day rather than skipping and then trying to fill in the gaps between with snacks?

Dairy.
All the dairy.
Cook everything with butter. It will have the bonus of making your food taste better as well.
Cheese, cheese on toast, cheese on pretty much everything. There are few meals that cannot be enhanced by the addition of suitable cheese.
Some cheeses even have a minimum fat content, how good is that?

Seriously steer clear of protein powder unless you are preparing for Mr Olympia.
It is designed as a supplement for bodybuilders who need to ingest 200-300g protein per day and can't get that all from meat / fish.
Has minimal calories or nutrition, testes rank and to top it all clogs your drains.

P.S. will also give you the 2 bob bits if you are not used to it

When I was bulking I'd eat half a tub of peanut butter throughout the day, straight from the tub; that was an easy 1k cals.

Peanut butter "flapjacks" go down a bit easier though, and don't take long to prep.
Just mix some peanut butter and oats, spread out and press flat into a glass baking dish, let it set in the fridge, then divide up.
Add some honey / mix in dried fruit or whole nuts / drizzle with chocolate as desired.

Oh, I also down blue milk by the pint...

Cheers guys, I will steer clear of the protein powder for now then and try to get at least a pint or so of full at milk in throughout the day.

Il jump on the scales Monday AM and try the above suggestions over the next few weeks and see how it goes!

I'm going through the same process with my mum who's not well, she's 91.
Here is a copy of the diet sheet given by an NHS bod.

have a poor association with food (i dont want to say relationship). you're too busy and don't give yourself enough time to take a break to eat. probably fix that.

But to answer the question for high calorie foods to eat throughout the day

- pastry/dougnuts (croissants)
- nuts
- ramen : lots of calories and something you eat quickly (2 packets is about 800 cals and really isn't that much food, could easily eat 3)
- biscuits/cookies. ridiculously calorie dense. 1 biscuit the same as 2 slices of bread.
- pies/patties. : the latter carribbean patties you get from supermarkets.. I can easily eat 2, they take about 50sec each to microwave. eat that with 2 packets of ramen (that takes 4minutes to cook) and you're looking at 1500cals,
+1 for dairy. CHEESE. very calorie dense.

if you want to meal prep there's a nice page on reddit called mealprepsunday. people post pictures of the things they prep for the week, can provide inspiration. spend sunday prepping the weeks food at the same time while youcook dinner.

Thanks, there's a whole raft of NHS professionals involved.
The leaflet just happened to be something given to me and I thought it might be of some use.
