I'm not sure if this is local to me, or specific to the supermarket I use (Tesco) or a mixture of the two but where I live the local Tesco has zero availability of a few different fruit and vegetables. I first noticed that a lot of the display space was sort of boxed off when normally it would have veg or fruit. I then noticed you couldn't buy sugarsnap peas (my kids have them in their packed lunches), and then the other day I noticed there were no avocadoes and it wasn't just that they'd sold them all, there was no space set out for them on the shelves.

Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone like to hazard a guess what's going on?

This has been going on for a couple of weeks now I think.

Oh, now I'd have left this in news purely on the basis that I was going to speculate it was to do with one of Brexit or Covid, both of which are news stories.

Worried because there are no avocados or sugar snap peas.

I'm guessing you don't live in Grimsby.

Ffs, I'm not worried. Probably should have said that the examples in question clearly aren't a problem. Just find it interesting that they should have vanished along with other things I don't pay attention to.

I appreciate that avocados clearly aren't a staple food, but a lot of people do eat them.

Oh and I live in Selby which isn't that much more ritzy than Grimsby.

I'm in Selby the people round these parts when asked want a Primark and a KFC not a Waitrose....

That's why I ask though if it's a Tesco thing, a Selby thing or a nationwide thing.

Is this an example of forum ventriloquism?

Maybe little local demand for those items ??
I’m sure I’ve seen them locally in the supermarkets here in Cheshire .

Sounds like there isn’t a big enough demand for them in your local store.

It's not just fruit and veg - there have been shortages of all sorts of things over the past 6 months or so.

Examples include:

Light soy sauce
Japanese Rice Vinegar
Rendang Curry paste
Fresh herbs
Free range chicken
Carrots
Coconut milk

Some of the above have been absent from the shelves for 2 or 3 months. Things do appear to be slowly improving, but it's still a bit of a lottery as to whether I can get everything on my list.

Not sure if it's Covid related, Brexit related, Climate Change related, or just poor planning.

No veg shortage here in Grimsby, we need something on the side while we eat our babies.

Most likely lack of people wanting it so tesco have stopped delivering those products to that store.

It could also be a seasonality thing. As its just before the new fruit and veg season starts they are keeping stocks that they have for the shops that they reliably sell in.

I believe that supermarkets don't like empty shelf space and when an item is out of stock they shuffle the other lines along to occupy the space and remove any reference to the missing product. This avoids the shelves looking like a Soviet Union supermarket.

Where can I get gooseberries?! It seems I’m the only one that likes gooseberry crumble!

My gooseberry bush has only just flowered. Give it a few months.
