I like cheese, all sorts of cheese, but simple cheddar is my favourite. I have just finished a block of Sainsbury's Canadian extra mature cheddar from their taste the difference range, it was nice. The stronger the better for me and I want to up the ante and go for something a bit more stronger/special.
Not being a powerfully built company director, I am not looking for something from milk made from cows that have been bathed in unicorn urine or massaged with dodo feathers.
Also this will be just for me as the rest of the family turn their noses up at anything stronger than a Cathedral City mature. So I don't want 10kg of the stuff.
Any recommendations, supermarket, specialist or mail order?

Many thanks

If you're going to do it

Cheddar is about 20 mins away (with an excuse to go through the gorge). I regularly go there to stock up. The cave matured is lovely, the vintage is getting on towards an italian hard cheese in terms of texture, The chilli is eek and the Cheddar pickle is lick

Godminster Vintage Cheddar:

https://www.godminster.com/

Still the best cheddar I've ever had.

Snowdonia Black Bomber is good and often easy to find:

As the post above, Wookie Hole. They sell it, or at least they do in Yorkshire, in Costco.

Keep coming back to Seriously Strong.
Definitely the best of supermarket cheddar though I concede you can get better in some specialist cheese shops but you’ll probably pay 2-3x as much.

Which version though? Think it’s the extra mature vintage one that has some flavour and the other ones are meh.

Then you need a good independant supplier.
I remember getting some "Scruttock's Old Dirigible" four year old off my cheese merchant. You could cut it so thin you could see through it and it would still make your gums recede.

Agree with that ^^^. It’s not bad if for the price and well worth the extra over the more basic supermarket stuff.

Wookey Hole is MrsLTs favourite cheddar too. I think the piece in our fridge came from Waitrose.

Montgomery’s is mine: https://www.montgomerycheese.co.uk/ but that’s a cheese shop visit/order to get hold of.

Subtle and nutty, the best Cheddar is IMHO Montgomery. Won a stack of Awards over the years. Fine Cheese Co online (who I can thoroughly recommend) do it, as do Waitrose.
