Ordered form a new Nepalese Curry House, which has received rave reviews.

When I called, they asked for my mobile which I duly gave, they then recited my name and address for confirmation.

I've never ordered from them until today.

How did they know all that from my number?

A guess, obviously - but: someone worked at another takeaway, left, stole all of the customer info and started to work at the new place?

Virtual branding? It's the 'new' bit, so I'm assuming you haven't seen a physical place, I could be miles off smile

Did they replace another restaurant that you had ordered from? Might be that they had the old places CRM system if so…

None of the above. When I asked she laughed and said can I take your order.

Getting a tad paranoid now.

Food arrived on time and was delicious btw.

Could be a common table booking/ordering system.

They could also have a standardised system so they can easily link into justeat etc. thats also used for orders placed directly.

I know Opentable/toptable or whatever its called now used to share the details.

Our Curry houses system had been set up that was a proper CRM implementation with lots of data stored. Example - phone in , when they answer they already had your last order available - they could even see my Friday vs. Tuesday orders ( as we used to order the same stuff frequently )

I phoned my local Chinese tonight and placed an order, the lady at the other end recited my name without me even giving it. I assumed they store their incoming calls in their contacts, and she knew my name from previous orders?

For the past 10 years I've always called in at my local chinese takeaway up the road for collection orders. Not once have they ever asked for my name and nor do they know it. They just know me by my voice/how I talk.
