Lotus Grill vs Cobb
Discussion
I've got a big outback gas bbq that is just a bit too big for a quick burger or bbq chicken thigh so i'm looking for something table top
I've seen both the Lotus Grill & Cobb, both have there good & bad points.
Does anyone own them & can give some valuable feedback ?
Ideally its for some sausages, chicken thighs & burgers
TIA

d to clean and the non-charcoal briquettes were absolutely useless. May be better with charcoal but never tried. Being able to put it on any surface and move it when cooking was quite good though. I have the lotus grill, used it three times to date.
first time was great, but then the shiny inside gets corroded and I assume it can't reflect heat as well. No wind when I used it
Second time there was a bit of wind and it did terrible. Really struggled to sear, basically warmed food
Third time was ok, no wind.
You have to sear items on the middle bit, then move to the outside to continue to cook/warm.
to be honest I'm not sure it's much of an upgrade over large disposable BBQs

Also have a huge Outback, use my Charbroil X200 for exactly the same things that you are looking to do.

The accessory hose and regulator allows the use if a proper patio gas cylinder :

Not had a Cobb, but did have a Lotus .... was useless.
If you want a small portable charcoal, then the Weber Go Anywhere is brilliant.

I have both
The Cobb is more of an oven, due to the lid and more versatile. I struggle to get it hot enough for steaks so generally use it for chicken vegetables etc.
The cooking plate on the Cobb is non stick, a few cooks and it is now scratched and wearing off. Cobb offer a stainless steel cooking plate as an option, for additional cost.
The Lotus is vey quick from lighting to being ready to cook, however after about 20 minutes the charcoal is pretty much finished. You couldn't cook a spatchcock chicken on one.
Wind is an issue and a tin foil wind break can be useful.
It cooks wonderful steaks.
Both have the issue of uneven heat, with the middle being very hot and the outside not really hot enough to cook on
Both very easy to clean, Lotus probably in 1st place on this, I guess this is due to the available cooking time prevents food being burnt on.
If cooking chicken thighs I would opt for boneless!
On balance I would probably recommend a Lotus, with the optional lid, with the heat being retained the fan speed could be reduced increasing the cooking time
And buy a second hand one off ebay!
