Does anyone know anything about this stuff? Is Cachaça Cachaça, or are there particular brands to look out for or avoid?

Thanks

Good stuff all round! Caipirinha is the cocktail you want!

In Brazil they have this routinely with deep fried savoury bits and bobs in pretty much every bar you will go into.

These and a load of small beers called chopps (chope?). You get a big paper sheet like you do in dim sum places, rack them up!

Yes that’s exactly what I am wanting to make. I just wondered if there were any brands that are “the one”.

just get white cachaca, the aged one is for sipping.

Actually not too sure on brands though, given the amount of sugar and lime going into it it probably wont matter much

That’s very true. Ordered placed, just went for the 51 brand one from Amazon.

I have never had a caipirinha, but a mate went to Brazil a few years back and raves about them. I suppose drinking one in Hertfordshire won’t quite offer the same experience but we shall see.

Great drink. I have a Brazilian mate who introduced me to them. I’ve never been able to replicate his version, I strongly suspect because of the huge amount of brown sugar he used.

I think it’s the Sagatiba Pura brand I’ve seen most commonly used in cocktail bars. Diffords Guide is pretty much the oracle on these things and suggests Novo Fogo Silver.

Good to know, thanks. Will try the 51 and then one of those mentioned when it runs out.

Well…. These are very morish. The Cachaça has a very destinct smell (and taste) that we can’t quite put our finger on.

Cheers.

Hi there,

I work with this brand

https://www.mangroveuk.com/portfolio-item/velho-ba...

Its the second biggest brand in Brazil and its great liquid for the price. Just wish we had some stock as the pandemic has lead to huge supply problems getting liquid out of South America

If you are looking for something more premium then look out a brand called AVUA

https://www.masterofmalt.com/distilleries/avua?srh...

They do some great liquids in a variety of wood finishes which are great for sipping

Regards

Tim
