Best Baking Trays
Discussion
I know this is more of a mumsnet question but can anyone recommend some decent oven / baking trays that will last?
I currently have Circulon which felt nice and robust to start with but 2-3 years on and they are really grotty, the dishwasher and various other chemicals won't touch them and also the square ones also warp when heated up and go 'twang' in the oven which is really annoying!

We have 3 Mermaid ones and they seem to last forever and are difficult to scratch / damage / dent.

Available in John Lewis / Amazon etc.
Edited to add that we use oven cleaner once a year on them and it brings them up like new.

We have three 'Ovenex' vintage baking trays from my grandparents and use them daily and they are amazing.
- Waffle pattern looks cool af and does seem to help things not stick.
- No non-stick b
ks which always fails and means you can scrape it.
Just use is, leave it soak if needed, cleans up a treat. Once a year just an old knife to dig the black bits out the corner. Dont ever dishwash them, keep a film of oil on them which is easy and basically do it itself if you hand wash and drip dry.

Another thing to consider is using baking parchment or baking sheets liners, cuts down the mess getting on the traysI currently have Circulon which felt nice and robust to start with but 2-3 years on and they are really grotty, the dishwasher and various other chemicals won't touch them and also the square ones also warp when heated up and go 'twang' in the oven which is really annoying!

These work fine and are cheap enough that if it does get too manky you can just replace.

All metal stainless steel makes some sense to me, and although we prefer the ovenex ones we do have a SS one like that too, but surely you have to be out of your tree to replace it because it's dirty? These work fine and are cheap enough that if it does get too manky you can just replace.

By manky I am not refering to using it once and throwing it out. More like when a baking tray is many many years old and has several black layers of flavour burnt into the corners that nothing will shift and makes it smoke everytime its in the oven.

I just had a look at those Ikea stainless steel trays - how can they sell those for £6? That's ridiculously cheap for stainless.

If they get a bit excessive in the corners you can just scrape it off with an old knife. As said, replacing it because its manky is mental.
As for how can they be so cheap, they are SS but they are not very much SS as they are chronically thin. We bought ours mailer order from a catering co along with some other bits, because we wanted nice high sided one that had the thickness to last a lifetime. Its not stupidly thick, but I bet it twice as thick as the IKEA ones and only about twice the price.

Eaziglide Neverstick from John Lewis. The best I’ve ever used. Takes seconds to clean them with a dishcloth in soapy water. If I’ve cooked something fatty then I’ll use a plastic spatula to scoop any fat/crud into the bin before washing.
