I need to source some daktyla bread and Commandaria wine. These are for my mother’s funeral next week (it is traditional to break bread and make a toast at the committal).

I can find the wine online but does anyone know of a Cypriot deli who could supply the bread? Ideally near either Cambridge or Folkestone. Online also works. It is probably available from a Turkish deli too but I wouldn’t know the name.

Unfortunately the nearest one is in Welling if that helps.

Try any "international" shop/supermarket - Polish, Turkish etc. they will be your best bet. There is an Everest Cash & Carry located at 12-14 Cheriton High St Folkestone, they may have some - 01303 271775. Also Polski Sklep, 26 Guildhall St, Folkestone - 01303 211684.

It doesn't have to be that bread, I don't remember it at mum's, but it was 2 years ago, though any Greek bread would be nice.
Just buy a nice loaf and cut it into thick slices. Something to go with it would be nice, some halloumi would be good. Maybe a bottle of Greek brandy too.

My father in law goes to north London regularly to stock up on Greek/Cypriot stuff. Usually from Turkish shops.

If you have no luck, PM me and I can ask. I know my mother in law makes it from time to time. Worst case, make it yourself - this video looks about right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmnyzbTWTX4

Thanks for all the suggestions.

The priest thinks he can source some in London, so I think I am sorted. I might try making some anyway, as it looks therapeutic.

Sorry if this is a bit late but you could try this place in Palmers Green...

They did the favours for a largish wedding we recently went to and they were very well received!
