Based on a totally non scientific sample size of 1 item - what on earth is happening?

About 3 months ago, tins of Ventresca Tuna fillets were £2.90 in Sainsbury's. Yes it's expensive for a tin of tuna, but it's really nice and (in my opinion) worth the money.

I went there today to stock up and the exact same tins were £4.20 each.

Approx 40% increase in (what I presume is) one hit.

Lorry driver shortage, chip / component shortage, Covid, Brexit - which one is it?

As someone who buys 30 cases of 6x1.8kg at a time, I can confirm tuna prices have rocketed. Our supplies have told us Most of this is because of the increased container costs.

A little bit is also down to the regular price fluctuations which is normal for tuna, unfortunately it was on the rise aswell!

Just compared a few prices to the same time last year:

Tuna 1705g was 6.84, now 7.44 (9% increase)

Mature Cheddar 5kg was 24.08, now 30.79 (28% increase)

Fresh Chicken Fillets 5kg was 21.29, now 33.28 (56% increase) <<<--- thats a lot!

If prices stay like this it will have to filter through to retail soon (it may be already but I haven't noticed)

Totally agree! Price increase is something terrible this year. Can anyone tell what the reason is? Starting summer I began to use the gift cards for eating, namely Panera gift card. You can find more information here https://giftcards-market.com/downloads/panera-brea... It is very convenient and cheaper. By the way, you can always check and add your balance.

Yeah, anything that comes in via sea freight is going to be getting hit hard just now. Container delivery costs have pretty much tripled since the start of the year.
