Morning all.

I have been tasked with booking a restaurant for next week for a party of 15 around the NEC in Birmingham.

One of the provisoes is to avoid (if possible) the plethora of curry houses.

I have tried all the 'usual' suspects such as Gaucho's, MPW up the Cube,Millar and Carter and Bar and Block.

Anyone got any other recommendations as time is running out and the Jalfrezi is drawing closer.

Cheers

if you are at the NEC then check out the restaurants at Resorts World. They have a Miller and carters there and also a few bars for drinks after. Sports bar in the casino too.

If you want to stay near that, then a few recommendations are Bulls Head in Meriden.. Malt Shovel in Barston. The Boot in Lapworth. The Punchbowl in Lapworth too. All really nice pubs for meals.

The Boat in Catherine de barnes has just had a nice refurb and it nice for meal and drinks.

ETA , IIRC there is a MPW at the Holiday Inn on the Coventry road? will be 5 mins in taxi from NEC.

I'd avoid MPW's in the Cube like the plague.

Its ok. its a chain pub and a step up from the likes of Wetherspoons but wont set the world on fire. The biggest issue is that they only book tables for 90 minutes so if you want three courses for such a big group you might feel rushed

I regularly work just down the road from that one - it's good!

One of my favourites. Business lunches there for 10 years partially responsible for my Mr Greedy profile view. Table for 15 would be a struggle though

I know you wanted to avoid curries, however the Tap and Tandoor in Solihull is very different from the standard curry houses. As the name suggests, they have a variety of craft beers rather than the ubiquitous Kingfisher. When I was there a couple of weeks ago they had a choice of this year's special Oktoberfest beers.

The food is also not the standard offerings. Have a look at the menu - https://tapandtandoor.co.uk/pages/contact-us

Prices are good as our party of 13 paid under £350 which included 3 rounds of drinks.
