Having recently inherited a 4 oven AGA it appears I’ve not got suitable tins.

Anyone any experience of these? https://www.blakeandbull.co.uk/collections/roastin...

Seems a lot for 6 tins/trays but would like to get a worthwhile product that will last.

Happy to look at alternative suggestions.

And then I’ll need to look at pots as the stainless steel set I’ve got don’t seem ideal for AGA cooking!

Assuming you've got racks in the ovens, we use these and sit them on the racks not the runners:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086CCJSP4/ref...

Same with big pots for stews. Just get a big cast job (Le Creuset style) and stick it in.

Plain stainless steel pans should be fine for the hob. It's non-stick you shouldn't use.

Don't get bogged down with fancy stuff from a posh Aga shop!

Biggest issue is size, with Aga ovens being narrow but deep - pans with big handles are a poor use of real estate unless they are of enough of a difference in size that you can overlap them.

No, we appear to be missing the racks so I’ll need to source those too.

Got a large cast iron pot which is fine, but unhelpfully when we moved my wife threw away the lids for all the saucepans as she “never used them”. FML.

Was mainly looking at the set in the OP as they are full and half size and fit the runners, therefore allowing me to maximise the space in the ovens. Sitting them on racks halves the amount of space in the ovens as far as I can tell?

Having only really started to seriously cook in the past 4 months with a gas/elec range, I’m now having to relearn how to cook with the AGA.

Ah, I see!
If you've no racks, that set makes more sense. If you have the racks you have to take them out to fit those trays and then where do you put a hot rack?! Might be worth getting one rack to keep in a bottom oven and then just move it between the two as and when you need it.

What you really need are the genuine Aga pans with twin side handles (you can then stack these in the aga ovens), some of the trays that fit the runners which again maximise your use of space, and a pair of gauntlets for getting them all in and out. Aga are naturally happy to empty your wallet for all of these things and do the trays in stainless or (not dishwasher safe) hard anodised.

Because a lot of things (veggies and rice being two examples) cook in an over rather than on the hib with an aga other thing you need is a “system” so that when there’s a pan lid on the top of the aga you know if it’s been in the oven or not. Simply picking it up is one way to quickly find out, but it’s not an approach I’d recommend…

You’re not wrong. £270 for three pans!

Doesn’t anyone do similar products for half the price? Had a look but I can’t find any. It’s the fact they’re stackable so that you can had multiple pans in the ovens simultaneously, but I’m surprised that nobody else makes something similar.

Think I’ll order the tins and trays I originally linked, compared to the AGA prices they seem positively cheap!

Do you do the book of faces?
The "I love my Aga" page is full of eager advisors.

Bummer that the previous owners didn't leave the kit. Not even shelves!
I'm fortunate that mine came with most things - tennis bat, kettle, full and half width roasting dishes & cold shelf.

Other than that I've got some ordinary stainless pans, cast frying pan & casserole dish. Not had to make enough stuff at once to need stackable/handle-removeable pans.

One other useful tool is silicone baking sheet e.g. bacoglide.
Also discover the 80/20 rule to minimise heat loss.

hehe

Also get a timer. You will forget something in the oven. Opaque oven doors and exterior venting both add to that.
Less cooking smells which has its up & downsides smile

I’ve usefully been able to use this to calibrate MrsLT. Apparently she thinks ours, bought quite recently, were “about” £125 for 3. Given she bought two sets I shall misremember (at least) two (more) car related purchases without feeling any guilt whatsoever.

Apparently this pan: https://www.agacookshop.co.uk/aga-cast-aluminium-2... is used almost daily and if it ever breaks she’s off out to buy a new one the same day. Her price recall is better on this, albeit the lid it seems is extra…to be fair I also use that pan a fair bit, heat it in the oven first and it works well for steaks.

Turns out her mother did exactly the same. WTF!

Thanks for the tips and I have now joined the AGA Faceache group for tips.

Tins and trays that fit the runners are turning up this week, just going to hope that some of the AGA pans crop up in a Black Friday sale as I do begrudge paying over the odds for the privilege of being able to stack pans in the ovens, albeit a very helpful thing with an AGA.

Been using it for 3 meals a day as well as unplugging the kettle and toaster, and so far it’s quite enjoyable to use and we’ve not bothered with the CH at all this week since getting it lit, which is a bonus.

Lifelong Aga users here. All the crap about Aga ovens being small amazes me. They are plenty big enough as long as you have the right kit to cook in them.
Your right about the price of the Aga pans but in their defence they are great quality and will literally last for your lifetime. We have both the stacking ones and the conventional ones with handles. Ours are well over 25 years old and look like brand new. Probably works out at about £2 a year so far. You definitely need the racks for the ovens, they are vital for multi temperature cooking of different dishes at the same time, shame on the person that took them away.
The roasting tins that slide onto the rails inside the ovens are handy but our big one expands so much it gets stuck, I keep meaning to get the hand grinder on it.
One tip is to get yourself some pan handle condoms, well cheap and much better than a sore hand, especially with kids. Here is a pic of one of ours. Colour coordinated obvs smile

Another handy thing to have is a big stock pot, a cheap one will do as it doesn’t go on the hobs, ours is massive and just fits in with about 3MM to spare.

We have all the cast iron flying pans, which are great but mighty heavy and expensive. However a couple of years back I bought a Tefal 30CM non stick frying pan from John Lewis. It’s brilliant because it totally covers the hob giving great heat transfer without lots of waste, thick base, cooks really quickly, lots of capacity and so far the non stick bit is working perfectly. It was about £50 from memory. I have had other cheap non stick stuff that didn’t last very long, possibly because they were very thin bases. Highly recommended.

Enjoy playing with it. They are very different and a bit of an acquired taste. In this woke day and age they are a complete anachronism but who wants to follow the herd eh.

Bit of a thread resurrection but I now have a set of AGA pans inbound.

Just the set of three stackable pans but they’ve got to be better than what I’ve been using. Did pick up a large stock pot today, just a cheap one from Dunelm’s, but it won’t actually fit in the oven, and that’s without the lid on.

Will change it next time I head past Barnstaple and will measure the internal roasting oven height first!

Has to be said, the AGA does seem to keep meat juicy and not dry things out. Only had one incident of forgetting something in the oven but it was the wife and not me anyway. When I found whatever it was it was unrecognisable though. It might have been parsnips in a previous life but just resembled coal.

laugh it’s chickens for me. I slow roast a whole chicken from time to time for the dogs and I am forever forgetting them. Mrs BigM left a meringue base in the warming oven for 24 hrs once and it was fine, just a bit crispy.
