Bad spelling on menus

(I’m going to have to be very careful with my spelling here, and will probably fail - I definitely will on grammar)
Worst spelling on restaurant menus please?
Best I saw was chilli spelt 3 different ways on the same menu in a ‘sort of posh’ pub (and I know there are alternative spellings, but not these…)

Definitely a pet peeve of mine. If you can’t be bothered to get the spelling right on the most important document you have, then it’s unlikely you are going to take care preparing food in the kitchen.
You don’t have to be great at spelling but you do have to get it checked and checked again…..

Really? The best Chinese restaurant I ever went to was run by a family who initially didn't speak or write English very well. Ordering over the phone was tortuous (but worth it). The food was amazing as was the customer service. You don’t have to be great at spelling but you do have to get it checked and checked again…..

They used to know me as Mr Lobsang, having misheard my name on the phone which I rather liked so I didn't bother correcting them. I loved their use of the phonetic alphabet as well, X for..... X Factor?
Spotting the errors on the menu is good fun. Best ones are the ones (eg. mussels/muscles) that get past the use of a spellchecker.
No shame in errors from places run by people for whom English is not their first language, but 'British' pubs should either try harder or have simpler menu items if they can't get it right.

I used to design menus for takeaways and restaurants and would correct errors as I went along. The number of places that would look at the corrected proof and change the spellings back to the incorrect one was mind boggling! One pub repeatedly insisted on selling you Chicken Karma, or you could have had Sirlion Steak instead.ambuletz said:

I've always assumed there may well be no "correct" way to spell many of these foods or dishes, as they are based on phonetic spelling from the original script in Hindi/Bengali/Punjabi etc. poppadom

Not a spelling mistake but an Italian place I used to go to with my folks in the 1980s did not spot a typo on their new menu. The Calzone (which was unusual in the UK at the time) was described as a 'folded tomato'. It became an in-joke and so after the next menu was corrected, was then purposely re-added upon request after that.
