Just thought I'd ask as I've just sampled the most delicious Tequila that surely can only be drunk and really, really enjoyed neat.

I was in the process of buying myself another bottle of Angels Envy Bourbon (which I like far too much) from Masters of Malt when I came across their Tequila sampler box offer. I'd been scoring most at around 5 out of 10 until I tried Clase Azul Reposado Tequila. It may be a bit too sweet for some peoples taste but it is truly fabulous. Of course I immediately went online to buy myself a bottle as a Christmas treat only to find it's price and non availability, if anyone knows a source that has it in stock please let me know.

Due to Brexit they are not shipping to the UK, pity it was a good price.

Thanks I ordered a bottle just now as it seems to be pretty scarce. Painful price but worth every penny.

Know exactly the issue you're going through after I had a rather nice shot of Riazul anejo at my pet tequila bar (well pet bar) in Hong Kong last time I was there. Tried getting it when I got back - Mexico only at the time, no clue how a bottle ended up in HK. Looking just now it appears a UK company did start selling it eventually (was 2014 when I tried it and looked almost annually for 3 or 4 years) but are out of stock.

I noticed there is a Le Latilla Anejo and a Gran Reserve Extra Anejo amongst the samples, as I still have 7 samples left to taste I may find yet another undiscovered (for me that is) treasure. I did notice that you can buy the 1 dram sample bottle of Class Azul Reposado from Master of Malt for an equally eye watering £13 but I suppose if not to anyones taste you haven't blown £200 on a bottle.

As my favourite Blantons Bourbon has for some unexplained reason hit the £300+ per bottle I'm looking for alternatives that are to my taste.

Love my tequilas, in fact I recently visited the town of tequila, the agave fields and a distillery.

Tequila is a hot drink right now, and I also have to agree that clase azul reposado is one of my favourites. Tequila purists tend to frown on it because its reckoned to have additives in it. (up to 1% can be additives, like vanilla, sugar and glycerine for mouth feel)

The problem is that agave plants take about 7 years to mature for tequila, and due to covid they couldnt make enough bottles to bottle tequila, so supplies have fallen and prices have sky rocketed.

Its worth noting that clase azul is very very highly priced for a reposado tequila and is almost unheard of in mexico, its basically made for export and fancy prices.

If you want something similar though not as full on sweet, aged more and much better priced try

https://www.masterofmalt.com/tequila/san-matias/sa...

I bought a bottle with a few other things, and then immediately bought another 6.

With the clase azul you have, try pairing it with some high quality bitter chocolate, like 80%+ coco solids (and no ice!)

Thanks, very helpful. Must admit my Tequila experience has only been.cocktails to date. Far too ugh for neat drinking, so I’ll definitely try the one you suggest.

Good I have some Keto friendly high cocoa chocolate at home

Just to add another Tequila to my list but along with the other very expensive sample Clase Azul from the Masters of Malt Tequila taster pack is Tapatio Excelencia Gran Reserva Extra Añejo this has a superb taste that can be sipped neat and really enjoyed but it is £194 a bottle.

So far I have sampled 5 of the taster dram measures and scoring 3 of them an average of 5 out of 10 which to my taste is along the lines of standard Tequila and suitable more for mixing rather than just enjoying neat.

1800 Cristalino was on sale on Amazon, might still be. It's excellent. As is the 1800 coconut one with some fever tree lime soda, ice and a wedge of lime.

Only from experience - Frau GenX's daughter is married to a Mexican bloke (top fella) and last time they visited from Mexico they brought us some Don Julio Reposado:

If you're used to the ste that most UK supermarkets sell this stuff is lovely. It doesn't burn at all but has a nice warm aftertaste. Worth a try.

Thanks, I've only ever used standard Tequila as a mixer for cocktails as I find the taste intriguing but not so good sipped on it's own. Masters of Malt did Tequila taster packs on offer at the time I bought some of my favourite bourbon so I bought two just to experiment.
I have been trying one a night and marking them out of 10, most are 3 to 6 out of 10 but two have been exceptional one being the Close Azul and the other Tapatio Gran Reserve but both very expensive.
I don't mind paying for something I enjoy but it would be nice to find something like you mention at that price, but of course like all things in life taste is subjective. I'll give that one a try.

I've really got into Tequila recently. The Casamigos Reposado is my favorite I have tried so far but I am sure there are others out there without an easy access celebrity endorsement that I would like as much. I tried a flight of all the different Clase Azul ages and their Mezcal and agree they were amazing but I would struggle to spend more than £80 on any bottle of spirits.

I am one of those annoying people who make guests try proper tequila so they realise it isn't all shots of Jose Cuervo in bad night clubs.

The stock changes, a lot of the ones we have drunk have gone. There was a delightful 50cl bottle of organic tequila earlier in the year - smooth.

Haven't had a bad one yet!

I've got a bottle of the one suggested above from Dropstore arriving this afternoon so will be trying that tonight.

I've finished all ten bottles in the Tequila sample pack number 5 from Masters of Malt (which has now sold out) and to my taste 8 were in the 3 to 8 category whilst the Clase Azul and the Tapatio Gran Reserva Extra Anjeo were definite 10 out of 10 but both near or over £200.
It was very much a case of just opening and drinking each one, it was only after drinking each one and thinking wow that was excellent that the price emerged.
