In the 80s I remember as a child my mum had one. I remember her cooking brisket etc.

Is it a fad?

Bearing in mind I don't even own a microwave ..
Should I or will it end up with dust on?

A slow cooker might be more useful.

Or a sous vide machine if you are feeling all 2019.

Depends. Do you want to cook things better or just quicker?

Slow cooker for me too. My ex's daughter had a pressure cooker and we never had any joy with it.

My slow cooker mostly gathers dust but it does a few things very well - e.g. slow roast sticky ribs or as an extra pan for rice, etc when cooking for a lot of people. Also it holds a good temperature for slow cooking a ragu having started it in a pan.

Really depends on what you cook.

I've just started using mine again for stock making. Takes 1.5-2hours instead on 8-12. Thats handy!

Depends what you want to cook, no Indian household would be without one.

Agree with hersh, get a ninja foodi. Had mine about 6 months now and have probably only used the oven about 10 times since. Pressure cooked gammon in coke is definately a favourite.

You could try something like an instant pot. Can be used as a pressure cooker but can also be used as a slow cooker plus others like a rice cooker etc.

That's what we've got and we like it a lot.

Get a Pressure King Pro. They're brilliant, so quick to cook meat and veg. Very simple too, just press the buttons and let it do it's thing. I was tempted by a proper hob-top one, but more likely to blow up the kitchen with that.

Our 80's vintage stovetop pressure cooker comes out once a year to cook the Christmas pud. On the other hand the slow cooker gets used a couple of times a week for curries, stews, bolognaise, chili, etc.

As others have said, depends what you cooks. If you do lots of roasts and want to make stocks, or make lots of dhals, then yes makes sense, and the stove top ones can be relatively cheap.

I replaced my Tower stove top pressure cooker with an Instant Pot 6 years ago, though I mainly use that for slow cooking and it proved itself enough that I've upgraded to the smaller version of the one LeadFarmer just bought (my mother will take my old one). With the Instant Pot and Ninja Foodi you get the advantage of a pressure cooker and also a slow cooker in one, along with other functions depending on model. Of course you only get the benefit if you're going to use them, tbh I never expected to use the slow cooker functionality so much.

I use a pressure cooker mainly to cook dried beans, chickpeas, split yellow peas. a 15-20 minute cook saves hours of boiling.

I use one for getting anything meaty and slow cook going.

Colour everything in the slow cooker pan with the lid off, then lid on for 20 mins pressure, then as long as you like with the lid off to reduce the liquid.

Bolognese, chilli, Beouf Bourgogne etc all good.
