Leeds Restaurant recommendations please.
Discussion
Hi
Me and wife are going to Leeds for the night in a couple of weeks and plan on booking Dakota Hotel (unless anybody has better ideas)
Anyway, we are looking for suggestions for a nice restaurant.
Our Criteria:
Within 10 mins taxi journey from the hotel
Preferably with a nice bar or very near to a nice bar/wine bar.
Not Japanese or Thai
We like places that are fairly dressy/stylish (eg.The Ivy and Harvey Nicks but have been to them, so would rather try somewhere different and less ‘chainy’
Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

Kendalls
The Oxford Place
Both are independents, fairly small & intimate but with a great atmosphere and exceptional food/service in my experience. Both are also within the city centre. For Kendalls, there's a 'secret' cocktail bar called The Maven a short walk away (plus a lot of other bars dotted around). For The Oxford Place, you're fairly close to Greek Street/Park Row where there are a lot of bars - which is where your hotel is.
Haven't stayed at Dakota but I have eaten there and also had drinks a few times in the bar. I doubt you'll be disappointed staying there.
Leeds is a great city for eating/drinking. Hope you have a great time!

Man behind the curtain was pretentious crap when we went. If you want a tasting menu vice and virtue is half the price and better food. The best food we've had in Leeds is the swine that dines. But it may be a bit relaxed for what youre after. Would also agree Kendall's is good. Sous la nez is also a great shout for top class French food.
I didn't mention The Man Behind the Curtain as my fiance was trying to get us a table there for my birthday which is very difficult for a weekend night - and I assumed the OP was going pretty soon so didn't want to suggest anything that might be awkward.
In saying that, I'm actually not that fussed about going - think my other half was trying to kill 2 birds with one stone
I do know a few people that have been and loved it, but I'm struggling to catch on to the hype - especially when they tell me how much they were paying for wine (can't remember the actual figures)!
I love food & dining out, but there is a point where perceived value & enjoyment part company.
Let us know where you get to Andyxxx.

Try Bibi's, has a very good reputation for a special meal out, I live and work in Leeds and that's where my colleagues are recommending and it's walking distance from your hotel.

I'm more of a curry person myself though.

Thanks for all the ideas.
I will wait a couple more days to see if anymore get suggested then try and book (I realize we may not get in because we are there on the 29th)
Fuzzyo – I do not like the café style of the Swine That Dines but Kendell’s looks as if it will be buzzing and also Sous la Nez is a good contender.
MarkJS – I will of course let you know where we go.
Jamescrs – We did Bibis years ago and really enjoyed it. We also really enjoy a curry (from traditional to the more ‘trendy’ restaurants with an Asian twist.)
This is all really helpful thanks

Went to TMBTC pre lockdown. Ridiculous, beyond pretentious and expensive. But the food was off the scale! In saying that, I'm actually not that fussed about going - think my other half was trying to kill 2 birds with one stone

Don’t write off the restaurant in Dakota itself, the food is surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant. The head chef is Simon rogan’s (l’enclume) son and we were pleasantly surprised when we ate there. The staff are all brilliant too.
We stay at Dakota a couple of times a year, absolutely love it there. Staff faultless, can’t do enough for you and just a pleasant experience all round. Would advise pre booking the valet parking, not the cheapest option but you can literally just pull up at the front of the hotel unload your bags and let the concierge take care of things.
Tattu - don’t really rate it, decent enough Chinese food but you’re paying for the surroundings and I don’t think the food justifies the prices. Drinks are ridiculously expensive too.
Gaucho - interior is bold and very gaudy, steaks were lovely when we went and service great too but the decor leaves a lot to be desired and does detract from the place a little.
Have you looked at ox club? It’s a little more casual perhaps but we love it there. Food all cooked on an open fire in the open kitchen, again great service as with most places in leeds and for us it’s our favourite place to eat.
Head to domino club if you like a bit of live music, bit of a speakeasy jazz lounge kind of place. Lovely vibe but would advise to book if you were thinking of going.

Thanks Joe.
Dakota is certainly in the running.
The trouble is we are now meeting my eldest (studying at Uni) and she is now bringing some of her friends who will outrageously fleece me for cocktails before we leave them and as I am easily led, may not appreciate fine dining!!
Ox club looks great and I think the wife will like it. If I manage the distance Domino Club also looks good for a late drink.

As an aside, have you tried Tharavadu/Bundobust, or have any other recommendations for a decent curry in Leeds..?
Akhbars is my usual place for a curry.in the city centre. Maybe not the most adventurous option but its always good quality and the place on the Headrow is a nice place to be. Always very busy though. Chunkychucky said:

Both are very good although bundobust is more of a casual place. Mowgli street food is meant to be really good. And a other shout for Sous Les Nez from me!
