Vacuum packing individual portions
Discussion
Was in Lidl at lunchtime and noticed they had some cheap vacuum packing machines so chucked one in the basket. My thinking is this will be great for bagging up individual portions which I can then cook boil in the bag style whilst I'm out fishing. Question is what's the best way to do this? No idea how powerful the vacuum is on these things and if the contents are soft will it squeeze out? If I make something like a lasagne or shepherds pie etc am I best to portion it up and freeze it first then vacuum pack.
Also will the vacuum bag stand up to being boiled to reheat the contents?
Thanks

There's a thread on here last updated about a month back when these came out (was updated as I asked before buying one and a few people replied) (might have been a sous vides thread).
If the food is dry, then no problem. Suggestion was made if wet to create the bag but just seal at one end. Freeze the food upright, then vacuum seal. So far I've just used mine for dry goods and raw stuff at that.
BTW the bag material roll it comes with (which I think is a generic/standard size) is a lot wider than normal freezer bags, so you may end up with lots of short, wide packages.
