Indian recipes demand these, but indigestible and not nice to chew.

Not noticed this in restaurants. What do they do differently?

Crush them under a knife and remove the seeds, discards the pods. Or crush the pods, cook and then remove as you would a bayleaf etc all.

I happened upon a recipe recently which suggested threading the cardamom pods on a length of cotton then once the rice is cooked they can be removed easily. Sounds like too much hassle tbh!

I agree though, cardamom pods are a pain in the rice and you don't get them ruining it in restaurants, never thought of just putting the seeds in though.

Grind them in a cheap bladed coffee grinder, which then becomes a dedicated spice grinder. Seconds any they are dust!

Which kind? Black or green? The former have a darker, smokier, flavour, but can’t be ‘de-seeded’ like the green.

Either way, all delicious, used appropriately.

Can't you put them in a perforated bag so you can pull them out like teabags?

... I thought it was the done way to bash them with the flat side of a knife and scrape out the seeds ?

unless you just put them in whole and take them out before serving... definitely don't want to eat a whole pod! hehe

I was once made to drink Cardamom coffee in Saudi Arabia. It would have been an offence to refuse..

The flavour is completely overpowering.

I deseed and grind, bouquet garni, or if just cooking for me and the missus count them in and out.

I had a girlfriend many years ago who used to call them "pine peas" and was equally revolted at my pleasure in eating them laugh

My OH now is of Bengali heritage, and she thinks deliberately eating them is weird. But she likes to accompany dhal and rice with whole raw green finger chillies and salt, so she's no room to talk.

Christ, they taste like stale peanuts marinated in Jean Paul Gaultier perfume.

the seeds are considered a breath freshener by some people.

Adding a cardamon pod to PG tips is the only thing that makes tea bags palatable for me. Must be stove warmed milk as well.

I see im not alone, green cardamom pods.

I cant see me threading them. A poddy bouquet garni, probably isn't a bad idea, as is counting them in and out.

Not tried crushing.

I find it’s best to simply ignore the recipe.
