Carbon tax on dining bills
Discussion
Have noticed the last couple of times I've dined out that there's been a carbon tax added on the receipt, it's only a trivial amount for now but both times I've asked them to take it off (I already pay over a thousand in VED on my cars due to the co2 banding).
The first time the waitress said it was policy and had to get the manager which took an age whilst the second time not wanting to cause a scene and wait five minutes whilst they recalculate I deducted it from the tip which didn't go down well with the other half, just wondered if it's even legal to add it to the bill without your permission?
It's a shame as both times the food and service was decent but the add on carbon tax means I won't frequent the establishments again.

Not noticed the last couple of times I’ve been out but I won’t be paying it. As you said we pay enough green / carbon whatever tax for all this green issue crap. Get some nuclear power stations going and get rid of solar and the ugly wind farms at sea etc. When people are scared to turn on the heating because of the cost something has to be done surely. But then again the rich people who make the decisions aren’t concerned seen as they have more money than they can spend.
If it's compulsory i think it should be itemised like vat to actually see how much we are being screwed over by 'stealth taxes' for the gov rather than people thinking it's part of 'reasonable' costs of the business.
It's not done at the moment but should be done again, stickers on fuel pumps just reminding people how much hidden tax there is on a tank of fuel.
i don't think the gov were impressed with that initiative for some reason

Just wait until the cost of living crisis starts to filter through....
Last month, £18.50 for 5kg of chicken breasts. It's £27.50 this week, an increase of just over a third.
Last month, £24 for 20ltr of fryer oil. It's £34.50 today with an unofficial warning that it's likely to rise to £45 next month. I hear that some wholesalers are reportedly charging £65 already.
The conflict in Europe's bread basket comes on top of last year's poor Canadian wheat harvest, which has already added to the cost of flour, bread and pasta.

I've warned our finanace manager to expect a 20% overspend on ingredients. Cheese of all things... wyke farm mature cheddar gone from 25 - 40+ for a 5 kilo. We've had to move to some prepared chicken products as its cheaper than buying fresh and making your own. And, as we speak I am recosting our next menu and seeing where I can save some money.

Like the start of the pandemic, I don't think people realise what is coming. And this time it is simpler supply / demand and shocked / stressed supply chains.
