Ever since I had Covid back in February I haven't had a decent takeaway Curry. They have been my Saturday night treat for many years and I always look forward to them but I have found I am just eating them out of habit now.

My usual Madras or Vindaloo just tastes bland to me - like chicken stew that someone has tried to pep up a bit. I can feel some heat in my mouth but strangely very little actual taste. I had been thinking that I had just been unlucky and the chefs had changed but now that I have tried 5 different restaurants and a few different dishes and I just don't particularly like any of them.

I appear to be fine with most other food - anyone else experienced the same?

My wife said the same thing for coffee. She loves a decent coffee, but since covid she found she doesn’t really enjoy it.

I was the same and ended up cooking increasingly hotter curries in the hope of kick-starting my taste buds. Eventually, after almost three weeks I found I could taste food again but it took a while longer for my sense of smell the return.

My O/H, who had Covid at the same time, says she still can't taste or smell what she's eating so I'm tempted to give her some Marmite, which she absolutely hated BC (Before Covid) biggrin

Taste is an odd thing, aroma definitely part of it. I was shown a wild herb the other day, some people tasted apple others vinegar.

It is quite depressing, takeaway curry at the weekend is almost a ritual and also used to be my go to post beer sit down for .. good god ... nearly 40 years. It has only been 2 months so I remain hopeful the love affair will be rekindled at some point.

I've met quite a few people that can't distinguish between the acetic acid in vinegar and the malic acid in cider.

OP: sorry for your loss, hopefully it won't be permanent.
