All being well, I'm hoping to upsize to a bigger kitchen with a separate pantry later this year. Coming from a fairly modest flat kitchen, this means I can fill the space with all manner of gadgets and tat. Fantastic.

On the list already are a freestanding wine fridge, a 12-in-1 pressure cooker thing, a proper Japanese rice cooker, a deep-fryer, a stand mixer, a griddle plate etc.

But I'm still looking for inspiration. What's the one thing, big or small (gadget, implement or appliance) that you just can't imagine not having in your kitchen?

You've already mentioned stand mixer.

I would add soup maker to that list. Mine was from Aldi (online).

Is this just a heated blender? If so, I've got a lovely glass-jug upright blender already.

Presume you just chuck all the ingredients in, push a button and it does the rest?

3 decent knives and a top quality frying pan. I cheated on the 'one thing' there. smile

We cook a lot, so have most of the basics taken care of. I'm more interested in the sort of thing you might only use a couple of times a year, but would be indispensable on those occasions.

Sorry for any confusion.

A hand blender. Far more useful than the magimix imo.

100% agreed. I have a Braun hand blender with a few attachments (bigfoot soup blender, minichopper, whisk), and it gets used weekly.

Pasta machine and sous vide only come out 3-4 times a year but an everyday essential is digital scales, either seperate ones with 1g and .1g increments or a combined set.

I'd quite like to get a pasta attachment for a stand mixer. On the list!

+1, our Ninja Dual Zone air fryer is great for just two of us, saves heating up an oven for a few chips and gets used for everything from scampi to part-baked bread.

A Thermomix.

It does....
Fermentation, Multi level steam cooker, Emulsifier, Slow cooker, Stir, Mix, Blend, Chop, Grind, Knead, Weigh, Saute, Brown, Caramelise, Whip, Whisk, Sous Vide, rice cooker, a kettle, oh - and a Veggie Peeler ... and probably a dozen more things.

It comes with a library of thousands of online recipes (£40 per year. cookidoo.co.uk ) for idiot proof step by step cooking to make perfect recipies every time.

You don't even need the first idea about cooking. Just do what it tells you to do. Perfect results every time.
If you have never seen one in action - it's worth a google.

If you are going to have just 1 kitchen gadget - this is the one to get.
Use it almost every day.

I also have a Thermomix Friend.

Can you tell I'm a fan? biggrin

Boiling water tap.

Ridiculously expensive for what it does but darn it’s good!
