Porridge does not have to be sweet. My mum would say it should be made with water (not milk) and just have a very light sprinkling of salt.

Well drained tinned toms on toast with loads of white pepper and far too much salt is a staple for me.

3 pieces of bacon, between 2 bits of bread will be about 300 kcal. That's about the same as a fairly modest bowl of cereal with semi skimmed milk. It's what I have often have in hotels when I'm working away for extended periods, a full fry up in the morning seems like it should be a treat, not a daily occurance.

A bit unconventional, but I quite like a can of Heinz tomato soup for breakfast. Can heat it up and throw it in a flask for the drive to work. 200 kcal, pretty light in anyone's book.

If sausages are perfect...get leaner ones? Or you could get turkey sausages (which are 80cals a sausage). the leaner pork sausages are 89cals per.

Another low calorie alternative to bread are rice cakes. 30cals each cake, so you'll have to eat 4 of them until you're eating the same amount as 1 slice of bread.

Kidneys are great, fantastic devilled, but I find they need to be really, really fresh. Which is inconvenient.

What about one half of https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/all-24... stir fried with a little bit of ham / chopped bacon and a few mushrooms or peas?

Works out at 162cal for the rice plus whatever meat or veg gets added - would also be a good way of using any left over meat, fish or veg from night before.

Have you tried them yet? What are they like? Much as I like sausages, every one I've tried, including from the butcher, are just so salty.

We get the Heck chicken sausages, both the plain ones and the chicken Italia ones. We like them. They make good home made sausage rolls.

OK thanks, I'll have a look for them. I haven't used salt for year, which is fine, but the down side is you notice it so much in foods you used to enjoy.
