As per the title, if anyone can recommend something for a lunch booking on 6th August - no budget constraints due to it being a special birthday.

Scotts or J Sheekeys in West End
Angler in City

Scotts is a bit "insta" (especially Friday or Saturday evening), Sheekeys more intimate. Both quite classic - Dover Sole etc.
Angler more modern type of food

I'd add the very wonderful Parsons (Endell St, Covent Garden) to the mix.

Small but perfectly formed, and I've never had anything less than an exquisite meal there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We've been to Angler and it was excellent so we're on the right page.

I think I'll give Sheekeys a go.

Update, we went to Sheekeys for lunch today and it was superb. Location could be a bit off putting but once inside it was a relief to be away from the tourist hubub. I had the obligatory scallops, SWMBO the Sea Bream ceviche and then we shared a side of turbot with bearnaise sauce and jersey royals - bloody fabulous with a bottle of sancerre.

Thanks for the heads up.

I realise it's too late for this trip, but next time try Brat in Shoreditch.

It's not necessarily as seafood focused as you might want, but their signature dish is a whole grilled turbot, and it's absolutely awesome.

The place has no airs and graces, it's all about the food.

Another vote for J Sheekey's.

The oyster bar at Bibendum is also quite an experience

Schott's, or the new one where Parker-Bowl had his old place.

get a nice US air force leather jacket into the piece smile

Having revisited both in the last couple months, I think Scotts is slightly above JS for both venue and food

Another great place is the Ritz, they have a set menu at GBP75. It's sensational and should be a 2 star at least.

Sheekey's is great, but a word of caution - they will not hesitate to cancel your reservation if they get a big party book. Very frustrating if you book in advance for a special occasion and are then left scratching about to book somewhere else a short notice when they cancel you for a more lucrative booking. Happened to a neighbour, they had been on their anniversary for nearly twenty years, they will not go again. I am wary of booking in advance now.
