t all over you but that dressing still had to bought too. Thats about another tenner if you dont have a good store cupboard shich most people who will be on a tight budget wont have.
Yes you can use it multiple times but there is an inital cost that you havent factored in. That could be enough to blow some peoples budget for the week.

Looks like a good meal for the price to me.
You can get a bottle of salad dressing for 99p, though it probably will not be as good as a home made one using olive oil.
My jacket potatoes always come out very good done for 9 minutes in the microwave (700W) then 10 minutes in the oven. Quicker and cheaper than 90 minutes in the oven.

Good job. Bavette has always been a good value cut (bistro lunch deal favourite) but as you say it does need to be cooked properly. Rare, hot and fast.
I usually have to ask the butcher for it though. Am a Morrison's user but never seen bavette there. Where do you live OP?
Some herby garlic butter would be a nice addition but would admittedly bust your budget.

What I would point out though is that something like bavette is lesser known to most people and needs to be cooked and cut differently to something like rump, sirloin or rib which most people default to.
As I think you suggested earlier, if you over cook bavette and cut it with the grain you will end up with a tough, tasteless very chewy bit of meat which would really put people off trying it again.
As a suggestion, try it with chimichurri, a few chips and watercress salad.
Hi what's the reason for the cocktail stick in the potato?
Why not just prick the potato all over and then salt before baking?
Isn't it a waste of butter on the potato before it goes in the oven? The butter can be used with a bit of chopped garlic on the bavette once rested.
I love bavette, serve it a lot at home in France.
Best potatoes for baking are Cypriot.

Great post. Very similar to what I get up to.
Morrisons do bavette, denver steaks and other sinewy treats. Great flavour and no waste. They also do marrow bone, ox cheeks, pigs cheeks and oxtail. Usually local farmers with decent welfare standards. I know a few farmers who deal with Morrisons and they speak highly of the business relationship.
I would have to budget for the charcoal as well. Only need a minute on each side on a blazing hot barbecue. Some good steak knives are handy. They're not tough. It's texture
Cheap cooking - leaves more money for the wine
If you have any left over, sliced thinly, they make great sandwiches and salad toppings

A good squeeze of Tommy K then. It’s still cheap to eat well in this country.
