Inspired by Charles deGaul on the dinner thread. Let’s see the really good stuff. So the rules here are simple. If you are eating out at a fine dining establishment, and are common enough to take photos (that’s another thread entirely) post the pics and say where you’ve been. In addition, if you’re an aspiring Ramsay and you have made something at home that would sit happily in a fine dining restaurant post away.

EFA wink
Yes thanks for ruining it right from the start. IMO EFA bullst on here is actually worse than anything RichieBoy posts. The thread is for a fine dining meal. I dont care if thats fine dining breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I don’t normally photograph my dinner but I did the other month when I was away for a weekend without my wife and kindly thought I’d share what she was missing out on.

This was at the Royal Hotel in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight but with guest chefs Ashley Palmer-Watts and Angela Harnett.

I'm far too much of a peasant to eat in a 'fine dining' establishment.
However if I was to I'm not enough of one to start taking pictures of it.

So why post? If you think photographing food is 'peasant' this thread might not be for you.

What's wrong with taking photos?

20 years ago I would have agreed with you, but few places even have a dress code these days.

Providing people keep to photos and don't start live streaming them eating their dinner with a loud commentary about how they are an influencer then I care not.

This was a simple starter of cured salmon, beetroot and dill. Everything about it was near perfect, whilst good everything that followed didn't quite match up to it.

Not high end fine dining, semi-local country house 3 rossette.

I’ve sent her stranger things than photos of my dinner…

...who presumably had the night off?

There's a rather unappetising-looking sinew in the meat, and a mysterious splodge on the right hand side of the plate.

I like going to places that have recently lost their single star or never try to play the game; they feel less pressured.

This place https://www.thehornofplenty.co.uk/ was where Sonia Stevenson (the first female chef in the UK) was awarded a star. Changed a bit since then but the service is genuine and friendy. I think they are undergoing so changes in the kitchen but its consistently "good". Will be off to Lympstone Manor soon, test the waters.

The splodge on the side of the plate was my own doing. As for the sinew, I’m not sure what you’d expect a kitchen to do with that, given where it is in the piece of meat. Luckily I was thoughtfully provided with a knife and fork so as to be able to cut and eat around it.

They really do think of everything.

I’m kind of with you on this. Too many starred places stick closely to an approach that often feels quite formulaic.

Parts of the “formula” also seem to significantly push up costs, with much of that then borne by anyone who fancies a drink. Dined at one a couple of weeks ago and the wine list was mostly 3-4 retail (with some even higher) on wines that, in some cases, weren’t exactly cheap to start with.
