Costco cake question

Bit of a random question

Has anyone per chance got a Victoria Sponge Cake from Costco? Or one of the similar sized cakes, think they do the Red Velvet, Chocolate one etc.

I need to know the diameter for a cake stand

We’ve had their Red Velvet cakes but never taken detailed notice of the diameter I’d say 40 cm’s - don’t slag me off if I’m wrong…

The £7.99 cake? i'd say 10inch diameter, not been to costco to see their offerings but do bake, the muffins are ~3-3.5inch to give a guide.
If the cake stand is a bit oversized put some decoration pieces around it

There's a good chance the labels are the standard width of 80mm so you could work it out from the photo. (240-250mm / just under 10" by eye).

I could but i'm an hour away from our nearest Costco and i need to buy a cake stand for next weekend, we're not getting the cakes until the day before we need them as we're getting other food that we don't have room to keep cold for long. I was guessing about 12" going by previous experience

Could you call Costco and ask? I’ve only phoned them a couple of times over things but they’ve always been helpful

I did, they said to email them direct and someone would get back to me within 5 days with the answer

Good rational comparison there Nimby. So thats 2 of us who say ~10"

The label also says Kirkland Victoria Sandwich Cake, some google-fu of that and "red velvet"/"chocolate" cakes suggests that they are all 10" cakes.

FYI, I would get an order in for all the food you require in advance. We didn't do that for a birthday party recently and by 9am most of the stuff was gone already, we were just lucky to get what we actually needed.

Slightly off topic but are those cakes any good? Had one of their Lemon drizzle cakes and it was nasty.

Yes, amazing. We had them at work the other week. Didn't think to measure one at the time

Tried carrot cake a few years back was awful. Mass produced artificial tasting crap. Might be better these days or other types might be good though.

The american style birthday cakes they do are bloody good.

Vaguely related - Costco used to do a wonderful New York cheesecake in the freezer section (conveniently pre-cut and frozen in individual slices).
But a few years ago they they switched to an over-sweet, sickly "English Cheesecake Company" one which is frozen whole, so you have to defrost it in one go and eat the lot in a few days; not that you'd want to.

Can anyone recommend a good New York style cheesecake?

The cake was in yesterday's "Back to University" mailing from Costco.

Sadly the picture isn't actual size.

we had a "cheesecake factory" one last year that was cut as you describe

Sadly? To my eye if it was actual size it would be about an inch and a half diameter!

Slightly OT but few years ago they did a really nice Paella (well for what you can buy in supermarket) in the chiller cabinets. Not there own brand, assumedly a Spanish import, but havent seen it in the 2 times post pandemic ive been, shame as beat Waitrose, M&S Charlie Bighams offerings and its such a PITA to make your own and not really practical.
