Subway's publicity error
Discussion
I've been buying rolls - sorry, Subs - from Subway for a few years now, more regularly now that there is one half a mile up the road.
It was quite good news when some reduced-price Subway vouchers came through the door. Next day, off I toddle with a voucher to get my lunch.
Order taken, order fulfilled, shuffle over to the till. To be told that "we are not participating in that offer". On querying this, also to be told that as the outlet is a franchise within another shop "which I could see, I should have known that the offer wasn't valid". Oh, and that there was no need to put signs up to that effect.
Granted, there are larger problems in life with which to contend. But how stupid to offer something and then say you cannot have it. The next nearest Subway is ten miles away. So why send me the vouchers? Their head office struggled to understand this. They asked for a copy of my bank statement to show I had bought something. Then asked me to enrol in their Rewards system; what's the point if I still cannot use the bloody vouchers?
I'll keep an eye out for Subway advertising for someone to join their team, with some common sense.

Aren't the 'embedded' ones usually more expensive too?
My local-to-the-office one in London doesn't even understand their own menu, as sometimes they'll have a sign up advertising the sub/salad of the day for £4.00, and then try to charge you 50p more at the till because salads cost 50p more everywhere else on the menu...but there is no disclaimer on the advertisement saying the salad of the day is £4.50.
Half the time I get it for the advertised £4, and if I don't I just walk away and it can go in the bin.
They've even handed my a voucher with my sub, but then won't accept it when I go in again week later.

i get flyers through the door regularly from one of the larger pizza places, every week or so offering delivery, etc
They won't deliver as their system can't find my ancient postcode
We get them from PJs and a couple of local chippies. They won't deliver as their system can't find my ancient postcode
PJs say we're too far (4 miles), 2 of the chippies say we're too far away (more than their 2.5 mile limit), and one says we're black-listed as we previously complained about something being missing from an order. Pity, because the last one did a great mixed shish (lamb/chicken/prawn/peppers/mushrooms).
It seems pointless, and a waste of advertising budget if you're targeting postcodes that are outside your delivery area.

This is quite common, there's a well known fast food outlet near us that is also a franchise and it's pot luck whether any vouchers are accepted.
In an almost related note, we live in a postcode where the Deliveroo App (and the website) both crash if I try and order a Pizza Hut for delivery from our nearest restaurant. I've told them, but it remains unfixed and I have to collect. First world problem, I don't even like the pizza that much, kids choice.

Did you order a 6 incher or a footlong, with 2 different toppings? It was quite good news when some reduced-price Subway vouchers came through the door. Next day, off I toddle with a voucher to get my lunch.

Asking for a friend...
Every few months I get the same bundle of junkmail: a menu for an Indian restaurant takeaway that is miles away, a crap chip shop and a double glazing company. It feels like it is being sent from another world that is stuck in a time loop.
I very rarely have takeaways now as I don't live there are very few round where I live. Some of my mates that live in built up areas have over 100 options on justeat, I had four last time I looked.

I think the problem is the leafleting companies target areas that are within the same postcode area (ie AB12 3xx), but the AB12 3 area can be absolutely mahoosive or sometimes geography plays a part and your area could be a spur on its own and difficult to reach because of valleys creating much longer routes.Edited by mmm-five on Friday 9th September 14:58
The other point is that you may think that you are only an extra imile or so away, but that could mean the driver is away from the store for an extra 10-15 minutes each way, so that's 20-30 mins of pay and extra fuel , which could mean 2/3/4 local deliveries.
But going back to Subway. Either the franchises should all participate or not at all.

If it were me I'd just walk out without the food.
Very much this ^^^Both times I said something along the lines of, "please accept the coupon or you've wasted your time and ingredients."
On both occasions they found a button to on the till and gave me the "offer".
Sure they're not losing money on a £3 or £4 meal deal..
