Skinners Brewery
Discussion
Old news, but sad to see a decent brewery go down the pan. Hopefully something happens and it gets taken over (by St Austell most likely), but Steve Skinner alone owns/knows the recipes and has allegedly in the past knocked back outside help/inward investment and refused to share. Now its up s*it creek i wonder if his attitude will change or he will allow some wonderful brews to die?
Will be the first of a few i suspect.

thats sad... good memories of their beer when a student in Cornwall!
... sort of explains why I didn't really see it when in Cornwall over the Summer....
Where were you looking?! supplies were fine in the west of the county at least both on and off trade IME, no supply issues, and supermarkets were well stocked until mid Sept at least. Will see what its like in a couple of weeks, as i'm back east since the news but hoping there will be some bottles of knocker kicking around in some places that i can stock up on but am told most places have had a run on them. No idea on volumes behind the scenes.... sort of explains why I didn't really see it when in Cornwall over the Summer....

The writing was on the wall for Jennings since the take over in 2005.
It's not nice to see another longstanding independent going but, IMO, their beer has been distinctly average for years - they never moved with the times and improved their range to compete with the more modern styles which are popular now but perhaps that was deliberate on the part of Marstons
Fortunately though there are a number of excellent small brewers that have grown up in and around the County in the last 15 or so years with a far better offer, though being involved in any form of brewing business right now must be simply terrifying.

Bloody shame, it is sad to see indy's go down and Betty Stogg was a hoot to see around Cornwall!
A former colleague and I convinced Skinners to do three ales under our own branding. Numerous pallets later we ended up with thousands of bottles unsold which we had to distribute across more than devon and Cornwall via car to get shot!Happy days.
