Christmas party food ideas
Discussion
I have somehow stumbled into hosting a party for ~20 of the neighbours between Christmas and new year. Whilst the easy route is to fill the table with Iceland premade food, I was thinking about cooking some as well.
Things like siracha sausages, salmon wraps with cream cheese etc.
What ideas are out there that would be straightforward to make and easy to eat?
What has worked and what not?
Neighbours are all very accommodating so no need for massive booze purchase but would a decent amount of mulled wine be an option?
Any ideas welcome as I have made it to 46 only attending and not hosting these things….recipes or links as well please

Always good to start with something cold when people are arriving as avoids timing stress. Some ideas:
- Smoked salmon blinis
- crostini and pate
- tomato and mozzarella (maybe with pesto)
- Parma ham and cheese
- crisps, breadsticks and dips
Then got things go in the oven once most people have arrived and ready 10-20 minutes thereafter. Some ideas:
- cocktail sausages (if you’re going to glaze them make sure you have cocktail sticks)
- grilled asparagus
- vol au vents
If you want to do a ‘big’ course that people plat up then you can do bulk cooking of lasagne, pasta dishes, couscous, roasted peppers, and big green salads.
Thanks and good spot on the cocktail sticks! Anyone else (kfc not going to cut it I’m afraid)- Smoked salmon blinis

When I was at primary school, we each had to bring something different. That'll save you some cash.
That's what our pals always do, everyone bring a small dish. Works well for hoovering up leftovers.
No stress and noone to blame.
Cold potato and pea curry always goes down well + vegan friendly.

Go to the butcher and get 1kg of chipolatas and 500g of smoked streaky bacon.
Wrap a bit of each bacon rasher round each chipolata.pack them in tight on a roasting tin.
Roast for 25mins at 200c
Pigs in blankets done.

Party = cheese and pineapple on sticks.
No need to thank me!
No, just no. Same as pineapple on pizza or mango chutney with a curry. All wrong. No need to thank me!

( Having some today, mature cheddar & Red Leicester... not on the same stick though)
NB: Cocktail sticks are like hens teeth & people seem to have got nervous about them.

I got some bamboo skewers with a loop on... Same size, but look so much more professional.
(£1.50 for 50, party section @ Morrison’s).

I love hosting parties
Next one I am planning on :
Baker Camembert
Crunchy bread for dipping
Selection of other cheeses, crackers and chutnies
Fruits (grapes/figs) and crudités
Selections of dips
Crisps
Pies - pork pies / sausage rolls
Parma ham
Salami
Saucisson sec
Smoked salmon
Olives
Mini arancini
Then a load of sweet stuff too
It’l can be helpful looking up ‘grazing boards’ for ideas.
